In 1902 he was appointed to the 1851 Exhibi- tion Scholar for New Zealand. In 1902-3 studied under Ramsay in London, taking the degree of Doctor of Science in the University of London. ln 1903-4 studied under Nernst in Gottingen. Mois- san in Paris, Le Blanc in Karlsruhe.
