Flipping over the page, we find that Carolyn Boomhower Hew to New York, as she was elected the 'KOutstanding Girl Scout Leader in the United States. This trip seemed to be a VRHS reunion as Dave Turner was the pilot, Arthur Heck, co-pilot, and Audrey Perrotte, hostess. On the return trip, Ginny Jackson, who is a head nurse at Bellevue Hospital, was returning to Rensselaer for a short visit. Pat Bruce and Irene Massara, number one American models, boarded the plane in New York, as they had just come from a Dior fashion show in Paris. On the next page there is a feature story about four local Van Rensselaer graduates who have justqventured into the hat designing business. Stock as Treasurer. Now we were upperclassmen and able to handle our problems most successfully. Finally came our Junior Prom, a day and night which we had looked forward to for three years. The Prom was a big success, and the girl with the wonderful personality was our Queen. This was none other than Miss Virginia Jackson. Helen Carlotti, the 1953 Queen, crowned Ginny, The court consisted of: Sandra Liljeholm, Audrey Perrotte, Ann Wheeler, Joanne Thorpe, and Sandra Bonlak. Now we were finally in our Senior year in this high school, and immediately class officers were elected to head our class. The elections were as follows: President, Joseph Smith, who was quite capable of handling any situation that would ariseg Vice-President, Charles Brewer, a reliable person, Secretary, Arlene Monington, who kept our records in tip-top order, and last but not least, our Treasurer, Kathy Austin. We finally had our turn to initiate the Freshmen. I don't believe we were too harsh on them. After the initiation we entertained them with the Freshman Recption which included a short skit, and a few musical numbers. Our largest and most important project was the Yearbook entitled Crest and Shield. We worked diligently and the results were certainly proved profitable. We are certainly proud of our book, which is the first of its kind at VRHS and we will cherish it for years to come. This book is probably the crowning achievement of -the Class of 1955. To all who made it possible our gratitude can never be fully expressed. To close our Senior year we had our traditional Senior Ball which was held at the DeWitt Clinton in the Crystal Room. By this time we were more advanced in the art of dancing, and we had a most enjoyable evening. Johnny Costas' Band supplied the music. As we now look back upon our four years here at VRHS, we realize that we will never return for another year. This is it. What we have accomplished will stand and what we have left undone will remain that way also. We would like to extend to Mr. jordan and our homeroom teachers a special vote of thanks for the wonderful coopera- tion and guidance they have given to us. Without their help our time spent here would not have been -as pleasant as it has been. 27
