CLASS POEM By SANDRA BONLAK Into the west sinks the setting sun, and we wee For this day is past forever And we may ne'er return Save thru a cherished memory. For many hours it shone upon us And for four brief moments Its golden radiance was dazzling. As it melts into the horizon We think of the darkness that is ahead, And of the glow that is gone, And we recall How very like the rays of the sun Were the warm friendships which thrived in its brilliance We are thankful to those Who helped to brush away the clouds And make our days bright. O, sinking sun, do not forget us As you go on your way To so light the lives of others- For we are the Future, We are builders of bridges, The healers of the suffering, The patrons of peace. You have added energy to our youth, And with these we shall make Each stumbling block a stepping stone On our highway of Success. Into the west sinks the setting sun, and we For this day is gone forever. For a brief moment We shiver there in the darkness, Then, turning our back on the past, We look to the east, And find the horizon aglow With approaching day. And we rejoice! For we know That, hereafter, no matter How deep or how final The setting of the sun, By merely turning around, We shall End the glory Of a new day dawning. 8 lk, ZU66 P
