Journalism is a fast-changing communications medium, whether at the high school level or in professional publishing. The school newspaper has sought to come back during the 1986-87 school year with a sharp document published and transmitted by computer. With the help of a pc, the information can be stored, edited and then sent by phone to the publisher. As time moves on, more journalism students will com- municate with the masses with the aid of the electronic typewriter, its memory and peripherals like the modem and printer. As this happens, the Rensselaerien staff will stand ready to change with the times. Mass com- munications students (like Steffany Smith at left) spend many hours putting the finishing touches on RCHS publications. Back row left to right: Charles Shroyer, Kim Bridgeman, Debbie Bassett, Dana Fletcher, Matt Crouch. Center: co-editor Genny Jones. At the computers: Jennifer Nesius, Jodie Lewis and Sherrie Hall. Seated: Crystal Hawkes, Maia Kingman and Lisa Lintner.

(J linos haos took on a new lustre during the 1986-87 school year. Now being published by Taylor Publishing Com- pany, the RCHS yearbook was eased in- to the computer age by way of a new IBM PC. Much of the book was entered onto a floppy disk and then sent to Dallas where the company’s typesetting and layout programs took over. The result was a more accurate and more contemporarily developed record of the school year. Many of the people are in the photo below and they represent the those who shoot, edit, crop, write and compose the elements that make the Chaos. As the computer grows in its uses in journalism, both the yearbook and the school newspaper will grow accordingly.
