Speech club competes state wide The main goal of the speech club was to develope members ' speech skills. The club was very small, but they still competed in contests all around the state, which were held in various high schools. They also spoke to many of the community ' s organizations. To get ready to make their speeches, they practiced after school and during activity period. Although this club is only active for three months out of the year, the students put in a lot of extra time to achieve their goals. Officers: Lynne Chesak, Steve Brunton, Cindy Miller, Lynda Worden, Bonnie Risinger. Language Club attends field day This year the Sigma Digamma members participated in a field day at Purdue University. A major part of their day consisted of attending the colleges foreign language classes. The students were also given a chance to take their first college exam. Officers: Mike Wright, president; Michelle Smith, vice-president; Katie Egan, treasurer; Annie Bucholtz, secretary. 29

RENSSELAERIEN covers school news The RENSSELAERIEN staff under 1979-80 editor Mike Pigford provided students with an informative publication dealing with all school activities. CHAOS produces The Main Event This year the new sponsorship of Miss Landgrebe, attempted to produce a yearbook that centered around one major theme, ' ' The Main Event. The staff was asked to present the year in writing as well as photographs. In order to finance the book the staff members were able to hold an advertising day in Rensselaer and surrounding communities. Members also sold subscriptions to the book. The staff would like to thank the RENSSELAER REPUBLICAN and Dave Schultz for their assistance with the photographs that appear in this book and a special thanks to all the people and coaches who were understanding when we had to interupt classes and practice sessions.
