Gay Nineties band and can-can dancers enliven the intermissions. Orphan Girl played at the Rensselaer Opera House. In the true gas-light tradition, villainous Mike Kanne and vampish Marilyn Merritt drove innocent orphan Shirley Caldwell and her foster parents, John Rishling and Sharron Lonergan, to the brink of ruin. In the thrilling final scene, farmer-hero Jim Bailey saves Shirley from the blade of a sawmill and vanquished the forces of evil. The villain threatens fore- closure unless the pure heroine marries him .
