Here students and teachers labor and laugh together. Here friendships are formed, ideas are born, and futures are plotted. Here, pain and pleasure alike go into the acquisition of the prized, though sometimes seemingly elusive, education. R.H, S, is a part of Z life to each student who walks its halls and to each teacher who guides its classes. Yet these people give it life by their efforts in completing courses, putting on plays, competing in sports, and planning and participating in activities. For the picture of our school in action, won't you join us in a tour of Rensselaer High School? , A-I HIGH SCHOOL Table of H if People ............ ll Activities ......... 35 , , Sports ......... ...53i t Snap, crackle, popg but not a breakfast food These are the familiar sights to all of us--the students congregating for a momer1t's talk, the sight of the boys setting up the movie equipment, and the industrious hum of a busy class. Then there is that tortured feeling when the delicious aroma of popping corn drifts through our classroom late on a Friday afternoon, making us forget how important it is that we pay attention to the teacher. Take u look Around Who knows what we will create next! F Movies make life interesting. We like a moment to visit. L-Lx On errands through the halls, we see a smiling receptionist directing our Student receptionist greets caller visitors who call at the school. The help we get from cooperative efforts at the study hall tables has boosted many a grade. Keeping an eye on the main bulle- tin board is a student's daily chore. These are the bits of routine we observe in our tour around the school. Our School Our study hall tables are a popular place to work 34 . Wha.t's on the schedule for today? , 1 P TWM iv. - VN gf srwffw 1 i Q N, The Sta rlighters Homecoming Dance Join Our Our 1955 Homecoming brought student activity to a peak. Booster Club committees organized and planned, and when the big day came, our downtown afternoon parade and pre-game showings were perfect. After the game with West Lafayette, we invaded the gym, which the Seniors had gaily decorated for the Foot Ball. There we danced to the heavenly music of the Starlighte rs. Homecoming Festivities The chain of floats in our if Homecoming parade was a symbol X of student ingenuity, but the Art Class's colorful demonstration of how to Bomb Those Devils won the prize. Backed by our marching band and surrounded by her atten- dants, Queen Nancy Smith was crowned with much ceremony and a big kiss. Homecoming was a wonderful day. Nancy Smith, Homecoming Queen Chuck Tilton, Senior Class President Carol Kelly, Junior Attendant Winning Float Created by the Art Class 7 Queen's Attendants: Mary Ann Reitz, Seniorg Carol Kelly, Juniorg Lu Ann Newcome, Sophomoreg Chadda Chapman Freshman. - y .W Student Director Schultz makes last-minute touches Glamorous Chuck Tilton and Fred Hamacher are enchanting In the spring of our junior year, after Weeks of preparation and a bad case of last-minute nerves, we presented the hilarious Brother Goose. It told of Jim Swing's troubles in raising a family of little brothers and sisters, including tom- boy Linda Trammell, who cavorted gaily in a football helmet while flapper Gayla Michael and sales-woman Mary Joe Zeiglel' vied for Jim's affections. The rest of the cast also put in able performances, making ff our first theatrical attempt a real success. COME T0 Jim is surrounded by admiring ladies The mysterious happenings at Fog Island were the subject of our senior play. Spy master Jim Swing, aided by the evil Sue Kresler and Dick Sanders attempted to force top-secret infor- mation from the Government man, Chuck Tilton, while all are trapped on the fog-bound island by the tide. The arrival of riotous sheriff Sam Foster and a group of lost girl vaca- tioners foils their plans. Evil and in- trigue are nicely tempered by the re- newal of an old romance by Chuck and school ma'am Kate Reitz. OUR PLAYS Final preparations for a production are always exciting Sue surprises the snoopers Kate and Chuck register affection before fascinated on-lookers The villains are held at gunpoint SEE OUR Our Christmas present to the community was the annual Christ- mas program, masterminded by Mr. Mau. Melody produced with the talents of band and chorus filled the gym, which was decorated with Christmas trees, giant candles, and a family of snowmen overlooking the scene. Soloists and special groups sparked the program which was a merry start for the holiday season CHRISTMAS PROGRAM A-..., - we-up -5' V YQ? 6 4 - .. ,Wm . 71 N x I 4,6 DAN A SCHAFER Manchester College B S lndrana Unrversrty M S Superrntendent of Schools ANN SPRIGGS Secretary to Mr Schafer MRS BERNIECE RISTAU Secretary to Mr Holt WILLIAM! A team's success is not always measured by the number of games won or lost. The value of this season will become apparent as the years roll by. These boys, who tasted several defeats and still hung on , - fighting to get on top, will look on 5- adversity as a challenge. They will apply this same spirit and willing- ness to their lives, which will undoubtedly mark them for success in their family life, their chosen field of endeavor, and their com- munity relationships. The students leave their cooperative work and go on to their individual interests, some to return to our school, some to go on, each to his own goal. R.H,S, has served its pur- pose in building its students intellectually, physically, and socially. Here we leave a phase of life we will always remember -- project successfully completed. li We would like to express our thanks to Mr. Wayne Erickson, who has spent so much time and effort in giving us such fine photog- raphy. Much of the success of this book may be attributed to Mr. Erickson's intense inter- est in producing the best possible pictures for our 1956 CHAOS.
