I CROWN YOU QUEEN OF THE RENSSELAER 1953 HOMECOMING Michael Grant, Student Council President; Harold Shuster, Senior President; Jo Hite, Queen; Attendants: Beverly Peacock, Judy Newcome, Sandra Jensen, Gayla Fleming. Daring the crowning of the queen, the band formed a jeweled crown with balloons and began their show with Ain ' t She Sweet? At times it seemed as if the cheer- leaders and the kids were working as hard as the team, but we were all proud of our hoarse voices. And we ' re sure that it was worth it, for we beat Lowell 41-14. All too soon the game was over, but the Homecoming Dance moved into the spot- light. What a wonderful, wonderful day! VARSITY CHEERLEADERS: Suzy Phegley, Jane Kurtz, Jean Pullin 7

We ' ll remember our 1953 Homecoming! It was a big day for everyone. Friday afternoon we formed a parade of the band, floats, the queen and her attendants and a lot of enthusiastic students. We marched downtown to the courthouse square to cheer our football men to victory. And then came the game ! The floats circled the football field and it wasn ' t long before everyone could spot the smiling Speech Club members. With their chef hats and big kettle, they cooked those Devils and won first prize. EVERYBODY EOVES A PARADE 6

II.C.E Bill Wilcox .... President Delbert Hickman. Vice -President Elaine Moore Secretary-Treasurer GEORGIANN KNOUFF CONVERSES WITH PATIENT SUCCESS SHINES ON SIXTEEN It ' s new! It ' s RHS ' s latest addition clubwise! Nine boys and six girls put their heads together with Mr. Patterson and came up with a new idea- -or maybe we just applied an age-old one. Anyway, we combined work and pleasure into the D. C. E. Club--that ' s short for Diversified Cooperative Education. A hayride and weiner roast led our parade of activities, and the boys visited the Studebaker Corporation at South Bend. Of course, there was work too-in class and on the job. We go to school only one-half day, but when the bell rings at 3:30, we stay on the job. There were just lots of occupational opportunities — auto mechanics, radio and TV, plumbing, nursing, retail selling, bookkeeping plus lots of book learnin 1 . Each of us study materials that apply directly to our job, and together we discuss taxes, unions, and incomes. We ' re sure that work and pleasure combined can be a success. 8 LEE MILLER CHECKS SHOE STOCK MR. FIXIT - -DEAN McELFRESH
