Sophomore Class MR. STANLEY ELIZABETH EDWARD HENRY MISS RUTH POST CARTON SMITH AMSLER LAWRENCE Sponsor President Vice-President T reasurer Sponsor “Out of childhood into manhood, Now had grown my Hiawatha.” In the fall of 1934 eighty-eight freshmen entered Rensselaer High School. Under the careful guidance of Miss Murphy and Mr. Jardine and with their president Charles Beaver, they passed a very successful school year by entering into the various school activities. On September 10, 1935, eighty sophomores were enrolled in the school. The class officers were elected at the first meeting with the new class sponsors, Miss Lawrence and Mr. Post. The sophomores were well represented on the Rensselaerien staff and had one member on the Chaos staff. Elizabeth Carton was one of our peppy yell leaders and Mary Brusnahan was an industrious worker on the debate team. In the spring of 1935 Millicent Rose and Charles Beaver were awarded the Tri Kappa prizes for having the highest scholarships in our class. Edward Smith was on the football squad and took an active part in the games. He was also an active player in basketball. Charles Beaver was on the ‘B’ team and assistant manager in athletics.
