J K XM, ,E . ,K 4! f ,Q H z yzvsgzfgr- Q S Sophomore History On the first day of school for the term 1956-57, we entered school as a proud group of students for we were Sophomores and a part of the Senior High School. This year we had the privilege of electing our own subiects, and were eligible to ioin various new activ- ities, namely, Hi-Y, TrilHi-Y, Library, Choir, and Press Club. The class was divided into two sections. Our home rooms were 25 and 36. Mr. Mills and Mr. Hauge were our home room teachers, and also our class advisors. We elected the following officers to administer the affairs of the class: President, Fran- cis Butch Sockman, Vice President, Paul Donnelly, Recording Secretary, Rita Wheeler, Financial Secretary, Judy Bottorf, and Treasurer, Jean Wertz. Our class colors were pink and blue, our flower was the mum, and our motto was Give to the world the best you have, and the best will come back to you. We acquired no new members this year, but were sorry to see the following members leave us: Marion Brookens, Richard David, lda Perry, William Rathmell, James Lomax, Charles Brennan, John De Shong, and Lois Croak. We were represented on the football squad by Larry Hyzer, William Severino, Howard Pflugfelder, George Machak, Charles Haas, Francis Sockman, and William Rathmell, man- ager. Our classmates who were on the Junior Varsity basketball team were Robert Heintz, Dan Harger, John Schenck, and Ralph Johnson, manager. Sharon Swinters, Rita Wheeler, and Jean Wertz represented our class on the cheerlead- ing squad. As Sophomores, our biggest and best social achievement was the Sophomore Hop, which was held March 20 in the high school gymnasium. The gym was beautifully dec- orated in pink and blue with a wishing well for the center piece. Rita Wheeler was cho- sen to reign as queen. Robert Heintz was voted to reign as king. Next came our class picnic. We packed large quantities of food and started towards Kettle Creek Park. One of our drivers had an accident, and two of his passengers were hospitalized for a short length of time. Other than this, our picnic was a success. Mr. and Mrs. Mills chaperoned this outing. Just as all the classes preceding us, some of our members were hit by cupid's arrow. Some of the steadies were: Lois Welch and Gerald Casper, Judy Bottorf and Robert Ed- wards, Carol Rooney and Philip Bradney, Linda Anderson and Richard Grenell, Sharon Swinters and Harry Walsh, Mary Ann Eliason and Clyde Bruno, Howard Plugfelder and Carol Bissman, William Friese and Sarah Adams, Cleon Cannon and Ann Rollman, Patricia Conway and William Burns, David Haas and Peggy Bailey, Robert Heintz and Patricia Shaffer, Francis Sockman and Sherrill Fuller. Thus ends our Sophomore year. We are now looking forward to many happy events during our forthcoming Junior and Senior years. ccfunior H istorya' September arrived and we were finally back in school. The Seniors reluctantly had to share Room 28 with us. At our first class meeting we elected the following officers: President, Francis Sockman, Vice President, Cleon Cannon, Treasurer, Jean Wertz, Recording Secretary, Rita Wheeler, Financial Secretary, Linda Anderson. Our motto was Give To The World The Best You Have And The Best Will Come Back To You. Our class colors were brown, light green, and orange. Our first big event of the year was the Junior-Senior Prom. We were proud to have two members of our class, Rita Wheeler and Paul Donnelly, par- ticipate in the District Chorus. Some of our boys made the varsity football team. They were: Francis Sockman, William Severino, Charles Haas, Joseph Welch, George Machak, Daniel Harger, and Clyde Haupt. James Edder was the Manager. Our class members on the varsity basketball squad were the following: Robert Heintz, Daniel Harger, and John Schenck. Ralph Johnson was Manager. Jean Wertz and Rita Wheeler represented the class as our Junior cheerleaders. Those who left us via quituation program before the end of our Junior year were Lillian Garman, Francis Holtzapple, Mary Lou Kolby, Carole Heck, Sally Miller, Terry Horning, and Sandy Johnson. We had to delay our class play several times because our varsity basketball team was fortunate enough to participate in the Pennsylvania lnterscholastic Athletic Association Class B Semi-Finals. In March we presented Man Alive. This mystery-comedy was directed by Mrs. An- thony Jeselnik, with Judy Bottorf as our student director. The following made up the cast: Linda Anderson, Francis Sockman, Carol Kepler, Jerry Powers, Patricia Limbert, Alice Stone, Ronnie Shelton, Darlene McGregor, Cleon Cannon, and William Severino. Cupid was still around with his bow and arrow. Although our class was small, we had quite a few steadies. Among those going steady were: Linda Anderson and Dick Grenell, Lois Welch and Jerry Casper, Darlene McGregor and Marshall Bosher, Sally Kepler and Dave Haas, Mary Ann Eliason and Carmie Rosamilia, Rita Wheeler and Tom Clarey, How- ard Pflugfelder and Carol Bissman, Sandy Johnson and Sonny Welsh, Ralph Johnson and Sara Jane Downs, John Schenck and Linda Snyder, Jean Wertz and Lee Woomer, Cleon Cannon and Ann Rollman, Glenn Brookens and Wanda Welch. We went to Kettle Creek Park for our class picnic. There was enough food for an army, but after a day full of recreation, the food soon disappeared-consumed by the army. No one was thrown in the cool water, but thanks to the water-filled balloons, almost ev- eryone got wet. Our chaperones were our class advisors, Mrs. Boyle and Mr. Florey. Thus we ended our Junior year. We were eagerly looking forward to coming back in the fall for we would be Seniors. Senior History Seniors!! lt sounded wonderful to be called this after twelve years of hard work. After renewing old acquaintances and getting settled in Room 28, the first thing we did was to elect our class officers. They were as follows: President, Cleon Cannon: Vice President, Francis Sockman: Recording Secretary, Ca rol Rooney: Financial Secretary, Linda Anderson, Treasurer, Jean Wertz. Our class advisor was Mr. Rathmell who gave usagreat deal of help. We were honored to have Linda Anderson as hostess for the Flaming Folige and Carol Rooney represented us at the Laurel Festival. We presented our class play on November 14. It was entitled Pick A Dilly and was directed by Mrs. Astrid Vasilko, assisted by Carol Rooney as student director. T he prompters were Jean Wertz, Pat Conway, and Donna Friese. Make up was supervised by Miss Campbell. The chairman of the stage crew was Millard Huff. The cast was as fol- lows: Judy Bottorf, Rita Wheeler, Alice Stone, Pat Limbert, Jerry Powers, Dan Harger, Janice Mayers, Darlene McGregor, Linda Anderson, Ann Hoinoski, Cleon Cannon, Robert Heintz, Ronald Shelton, Pat Conway, and Ralph Johnson. Francis Sockman was Master of Ceremonies. John Schenck and Paul Donnelly performed between acts. During the Christmas vacation we had the annual Snowball Hop. Carol Rooney and Francis Sockman were chosen as the Queen and King respectively. The gym was dec- orated in a beautiful winter scene motif which consisted of an old-fashioned sleigh and several Christmas trees. We were sorry to lose Andrew Matala, Mary Ann Eliason, Tom Clarey, Robert Gregory, and Dave Wilson, but we were happy to gain Ann Hoinoski, Mary Fantaskey, Frances Fidele, and Barbara McKee. Our Senior cheerleaders were Rita Wheeler and Jean Wertz. We were represented on the football team by: William Severino, Francis Sockman, and George Machak. James Edder was student manager. We won three games and lost five this season. The boys participating in basketball were: Robert Heintz, Dan Harger, a nd John Schenck. Francis Sockman was student manager. Paul Donnelly and Carol Rooney represented us at the district chorus in Kane, Pennsyl- vania. Of course we had our steadies.
