BASKETBALL Starting the season with five returning veterans from 1942, Iim Aiken, Harold Carter, lim Andrews, Ernie Hall, and Dan Vidovich, Coach Her Foster's A squad had high hopes. The lettermen were backed up by Gaylon Allred, Camie Hall, Frank Tacchino, Norman Olsen, Bob Hildebrand, Bruce Hill, and Bill Stone . . . Competing in the Western Zone Tournament, the Reno Huskies took first honors, leaving first the Stewart team, then Virginia City, next Fallon, and finally the Carson City team behind them. The final tally of games at the end oi the season was 15 wins and one loss . . . The teams and scores of the season are as follows: o oPPoNsNT RENO 37 . . University of Nevada Frosh . . 25 29 . . . . lFlOO'lFlBAlLlL With ten letter-men and several promising B-squad men returning from last year's team, a very successful season was predicted for Reno . . . In the first game of the season, the Huskies met the Carson Senators and lived up to expec- tations by taking a 45-to-6 victory. Reno then traveled to Fallon and trounced the Green Wave, 20 to 6. Iohn Brooks, Reno halfback, broke his ankle late in the second quarter of this game and his expert playing was missed for the rest of the season. The next clash brought Reno and Yerington together, with the Huskies remaining unbeaten. Reno's forward wall was too much for the Yerington Lions, and the Huskies won, 19 to 6. Next came the Stewart Indians, who gave the Renoites quite a scare. It was nip-and-tuck all the way until the third quarter when the Braves weakened a little and Reno went over for two touchdowns. Both conversions failed and the final score was: Reno l2, Stewart O. The annual big game with the Sparks Railroaders was next on the schedule. Although outplayed and outpowered, Reno put up a stiff fight, but Sparks scored late in the second quarter, for the game's only touchdown, to win, 6 to O. After a two weeks' rest, Reno encountered Fallon on the Huskies' home territory. Sparked by Bob Ravera's 65-yard run and Iim Aiken's passes, the Reno men again claimed the heavy end of the score, which was 12 to O. Again meeting Stewart, Reno's power and deception netted her another victory over the Braves to the tune of 13 to O . . . Reno ended the season with six wins and one loss, amassing l2l points to the opponents' 24 . . . lim Aiken, Bob Bolander, and Al Barbagelata were named to the All-State team and nine other Reno men received honorable mention . . . Although Reno High is losing many good men by graduation and to the services, several experienced gridders will return next year and Coach Foster should be able to turn out a fine team.
