'Q SlENll0lR CLASS ll-lllISfll'UlRY The fall of 1940 was a fateful one-we thought. Wasn't Reno High going to welcome us with open arms after we had proven ourselves such outstanding ninth-graders? . . . It welcomed us, all right, with remarks like, Say, she's some babe! or Hasn't he the prettiest hair? But we would show them. Our soph assembly, hop, and plays-didn't they tell the rest of the school that we were something besides date and athletic material? No one seemed to care. With faith and courage we carried on. Most of us became juniors. We no longer worried-much-about what others thought of us. We were now a real part of the school, for better or for worse. The faculty shrugged their shoulders and sighed, It's a good experience .W . . Our sea-faring prom and rip-roaring assembly were a success, and by this time we found ourselves busy with all kinds of clubs and activities . . . After struggling into senior sessions, we still felt like the same old drips, but, realizing our responsibilities, strove to develop a sense of importance. Whether the sophs and juniors have ever looked up to us we don't know. They've never acted particularly respectful . . . Many of the fellows left to don uniforms: the female stag-line lengthened. Still enthusi- astic, we chalked up two achievements of which we're proud-the first senior play in three years, a mighty good one, too, and the reorganization of the Re-Wa-Ne . . . With the banquet, ball, and finally graduation we ended our three-year visit. The school won't miss us, but it may remember us . . . Now our job is to see that our diplomas do more than take up space.
