The Lady Warriors were the first RLC team to win a bid in a State Tournament. The Lady Warriors qualified for state by upsetting Kaskaskia in the Sectional. They achieved an 1 8-1 1 overall record taking first place in the Lincoln Land Holiday Classic and a tie for second place in league competition. These services include counseling, registration, financial aid, and testing. Mr. Graham works hard to create pleasant and convenient programs for the students at RLC. Assistant Registrar: Sue Upchurch 85 Business Manager Mr. Skip Witunski, the Business Manager for Rend Lake College works with the president in preparing the budget of the college. He is also responsible for all financial and business functions. Mr. Witunski also establishes a proper system of accounting, purchasing and budgetary control. The department offers both certificate and degree programs in each area. Bill Hudson is the Chairman. 99 Fine Arts The Arts Communication Department includes music, arts, speech and drama, foreign language composition, literature, and laboratory classes in reading and writing skills. The department offers all the English courses required for the first two years of college, a full two year music program for music majors, expanding art appreciation and art studio offerings, and a foreign language program that is beginning to grow again. The department is very visible in the community through its creative writing workshops, its music performing ensembles, and its art exhibits. The department consists of the following areas: Business, Secretarial Science, Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Law Enforcement. Myron G. Foley is the Department Chairman. 107 108 112 Science and Health Whether you wish to be a healthy scientist or a scientific health technician, then you will be involved with the Science and Health Department. Science composes biology, botany, physics, physical science, physical geology, ecology, zoology, anatomy and chemistry. Health disciplines include physical education, cosmetology, operating room technology, licensed practical nursing, associate degree nursing, health education, and basic first aid. Since science is so deeply related to the health field then these areas of study are adminstered by the same department. The department offers many levels of instruction which includes a safety and certificate updating as well as the two year degree and certificate programs in mining technology. The Acting Department Chairman is Charles Bender. 122 123 124 SIDE TRIPS 125 Lettermens Club The RLC Lettermens Club provides a source of athletic fellowship for student athletes. During the year the club operates the concession stands at athletic events which generates additional revenue to help finance special equipment and awards. To participate in the club one must be a full time student in good standing and a member of a RLC athletic team. To qualify for membership a student must achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average for two semesters and be a full- time student for those same two semesters. Late in the spring Phi Theta Kappa will install new members and elect an instructor for the Most Distinguished Education Award. Engineering Ciub The Rend Lake College Engineering and Science Club was formed to promote educational developemnt and the understanding of occupational engineering and sciences. Plans for the spring semester include a cultural excursion to one of St. Louis ' fine theatres. SEA The Student Education Association was created to aid education majors in understanding problems they will encounter in their field. The SEA is affiliated with the Illinois Education Association and the National Education Association. Circle K The Circle-K Club is a junior college organization branch of the Kiwanis Club. It has held bake sales, sold tickets at basketball games and peanuts for crippled children. It also held a Christmas Party for the Alternative School, attended Kiwanis Fall Inspirational Meeting, and individual members have visited area nursing homes. The club plans to develop a play area for the children of registering parents to assist the Mt. Vernon Kiwanis Club with their annual Pancake Day. BASIC plans to have bake sales, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich give-away, and attend conferences in Springfield, Illinois and Louisville, Kentucky. It also distributes information on BASIC. The decorations were provided by the Student Senate and the Interior Design Guild. The dance was well attended and enjoyed by all. Alumni Game The Phi Beta Lamba Club sponsored a Mr. Mrs. Ugly contest in which the students cast their votes for their favorite candidates. The winners were announced at the alumni basketball game. A faculty vs. student game was also held with a dance sponsored by the student Senate held afterwards in the Student Center. 148 David Hoy The campus of Rend Lake was honored this fall by a visit from David Hoy. As he talked to a theatre full of students you could gaze around at the faces and see wonder, awe, curiosity and doubt. As he began answering questions more and more hands were raised and the students seemed to enjoy his lecture very much. Make Up Demonstration Ms. Kolojewski brought in a professional make-up artist to demonstrate the proper use of make-up and the many different effects you can obtain by using colors to achieve a mood or feeling. THE CONCERT BAND . . . recapturing the fun of an old fashioned concert, capturing the energy of today . . .THE SYMPHONY. . . combining the genius of Bach with the beauty of the Mitchell Museum . . . music alive at Rend Lake 152 Anniversary Party Mrs. Helen Kite was honored by faculty and students for her 45th wedding anniversary. The party was held in the North Oasis with many of her friends attending. Faculty Picnic The Faculty Social Committee organized a pot luck, get acquainted picnic at the beginning of the school year for the faculty and their families. They all enjoyed a large variety of good food and later they moved to the gym for games and activities. Blackouts The annual Blackouts Production was held this fall for the purpose of raising funds for a scholarship. Not only students but teachers also got into the act . Blackouts proved to be very exciting and enjoyable for everyone who either attended or participated in the fun. Carnival The Halloween Carnival was held again this year on Rend Lake campus. It was arranged by the Interior Design Club. All the clubs on campus were invited to set up a booth and take part in all the fun things that happened during the day. Guest Speakers Throughout the school year the campus of Rend Lake College is visited by many different guest speakers from all facets of life. Some of the special things held was a two-day police seminar and a women ' s basketball coaching seminar. The Special Olympics are athletic games quite similar to the other Olympics except they are held for the mentally handicapped ages of eight and older. The Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Foundation sponsors the games nationwide and the SlU Recreation Department is the sponsor for our region. Honors Day Each year at Rend Lake College our many outstanding students are honored by a program held especially for them.
