We firmly believe that Mrs. Ward should be credited with much of the unity and development of the faculty, the students, and the community of Rend Lake College. No matter how minute or in- volved the problems may be, Mrs. Ward always finds it to be a self-imperative need to help the college ' s students to be- come better citizens in their country and their community. Snyder, President of Rend Lake College, contemplate victory. 60 Bond Passage Opens The Door To A New Era Greeting You the students, your parents, and all the fine people who reside in our college district deserve to be congratulated on the manner in which you have moved forward recently in making a new Rend Lake College possible. The fact that you have chosen the theme The New Era for your Yearbook is certainly indicative of the enthusiasm and spirit that accompanies these recent developments. As our plans unfold for the new campus, new open doors of opportunity and wider horizons will become available to all people of the area. These doors of opportunity will remain open around the clock and around the calendar. We encourage and welcome everyone --young people and adults alike to take advantage of these opportunities. Dean ' s Message Much has been written in the junior college literature about the open-door policy--the willingness to admit any applicant. However, an open-door permits passage both ways, and the sojourn of some students inside the junior college is sometimes so short that cynics have renamed the open-door policy the revolving- door policy. The State of Illinois is attempting to build a system of junior colleges which really have their doors open to all, a system which will open doors to the future. Rend Lake College is proud to be a part of that system. Yet, despite the efforts of state and local groups to improve opportunities, the final achievement must lie with you — the student. New buildings, new cur- ricula, new methods of teaching avail naught unless you are willing to open the doors to your mind. The door can be prepared for you, but you must open it your- self. 63 I Dr. Howard Rawlinson Honored For Ten Years ' Service MR. JAMES F. YATES MRS. BETTY WARD MR. HOWARD L. JONES MR. PAUL M.
