DEDICATION For her devotion to the profession of teaching, for her inspiration to everyone, and for those wonder¬ ful qualities that make her one of our best loved people, The Rambler Staff dedicates the 1963 edition of the Rambler to Mrs. Elizabeth Booker. DEDICATION Mrs. Booker discusses plans for FHA Christmas Faculty Tea witu Joan Robertson, President, as an annual event at Renan High School. In spite of her full schedule, however, Mrs. Booker is never too busy to listen to a problem or offer thoughtful counseling. H$r sincere interest in each individual, and her loyalty and devotion to Renan High have won for her the respect and admiration of the student body. 7 A Colorful Year . . . These fifth grade students are listening attentively to their teacher, Mrs. Owen. The grade students as well as the high school help make Renan what it is today. These students have earned the honor of being invited to join the Beta Club. It has been a very eventful year for the first graders as they have been intro¬ duced to a whole new world through reading, printing, and numbers. YES, THIS WAS OUR YEAR AT RENAN HIGH SCHOOL. It was a year filled with the realities of the present and the hopes and ambitions of the future. It was a colorful year, an eventful year. It was a year in which challenges were met, aspirations became realities, and long awaited goals were reached. It was a year in which the tomorrows soon became yesterdays, the present and the future faded into the past, leaving memories of not to be forgotten events. Nancy Bruce became Carnival Queen and Sayford Moon became Carnival King. Mr. Hamliton is shown with the two winners. The friendships, the associations, the quiet feeling of togetherness that rang through the halls; these too were a part of our year. These are the things that have made Renan what it is today. And the aware¬ ness of these things was the driving force that made each of us resolve that this our year at Renan would be the best she has ever had! Now we will take a peek at the activities. The FHA helps a girl to realize the importance of worthy home membership; to work to have democracy, wholesome recreation, and creative leader¬ ship in the home and community. It also helps a girl to prepare for a career in home economics. Renan Chapter has been affiliated with the state and national level for 17 years. During these years the chapter has grown in leadership and membership. The State goal that was chosen was Stay in School . Throughout the year there was a special project pertaining this goal. Some of the projects this year are: the adoption of Kathy McGhee, coverdish supper for new members, participating and modeling in the Danville Fair, the FHA-FFA Banquet and Prom, presenting of a Fashion Show to the PTA and others featuring Stay in School. One of the Federation Projects was for each club to make aprons to send to the Lynchburg Training School. 28 LEFT TO RIGHT, 1st ROW: William Tucker, John Riggleman, Wayne Meadows, Richard Hutcherson, Gerald Jacobs, R.J. Future Farmers Get Experience The Renan Chapter is a member of the Virginia Association of Future Farmers of America which has a total member¬ ship of 9696 boys in 174 chapters. Each boy has the privi¬ lege of wearing the F.F.A. Emblem. This emblem of the Future Farmers of America is significant and meaningful in every detail. It is made up of five symbols: the owl, the plow, and the rising sun, within the cross section of an ear of corn which is surmounted by the American eagle. The owl is symbolic of wisdom and knowledge; the plow is the symbol of labor and tillage of the soil; the rising sun is em¬ blematic of progress and the new day that will dawn when all farmers are trained and have learned to cooperate; the cross section of an ear of corn represents common agricul¬ tural interests since corn is native to America and grown in every state; and the eagle is indicative of the national scope of the organization. Oscar Robertson, Terry Marr, David Hutcherson, and James Wilson are judging corn. This is just one part of the crop judging contest. 29 Officers: SEATED: Leslie Johnson, vice-president; R. J. There are pictures to be identified, layouts to be drawn; there is copy to be written; proof-read, rewritten, and proofread again. There is also the job of collecting ads.
