Joan Howe and Lois Donham tied for first place in the Ameri- can Association of University Women's Poetry contest. Anne Mandeville received third place, Mary Schoonrnaker received the first place gold medal in the state English contest and Lois received a third place bronze medal, Thespians, who were honored for their work in drarnatics, were, left to right: Carol Grimm, Billie .lo Myers, Charlie Myers, Jim Schaffer, David BeMiller, David Riggs, Jim Paul, Leo Wentzel and Dennis Brown. In the state regional mathematics contest, Lee Riggs re- ceived first place in the geometry tstg Barbara Niethammer won first place in the comprehensive test, and Danny Bumb won scond place in the algebra contest. Coach Clarence Riggs received the SIAC championship trophy tor the basketball team this year. Jim Byers was presented with the Kiwanis football award forthe season by Mr. Russell Barnett, president of the Kiwanis Club, Coach Herman Byers stands beside the city championship trophy which his l953 city, SIAC and state championship team retained for Reitz High School.
