But in humility we approach Our Lord by using this opportunity to honor a departed servant, Brother Joel, C.S.C. Brother Joel Weppler was a native of Cillman, Illinois. Entering the Congregation of the Holy Cross in 1929, he took his final vows in 1934. In September 1945 he came to Memorial from Monsignor Coyle High School, Taunton, Massachusetts. He previously taught at Vincentian Insti- tute, Albany, New York, and Cathedral High School, Indianapolis, Indiana. His intelligence and patience flowed to the students and was returned by definite respect and gratitude. Brother Ioel never desired to be in the spotlight, nevertheless, he holds a highly esteemed position in every stu- dent's heart. He was a gentle person of great talent. He was small in sature but one didn't notice this for he was a great man. Few men have gone so deep into the dusty pages of history, as he has, and emerged with greater knowledge. We, who were young and full of spirit, were made to leave our laughter in the hall and place our notebooks and pencils in a prescribed corner of our desks. If any of us who are now setting out to take our place in the making of history should attain a small degree of success or fame, let him pause and give humble thanks that he was given the privilege to walk the path with so great a teacher. On December 23, 1951, God chose to take Brother joel for a stroll through the Celestial Garden. After a life well spent Brother now enjoys his eternal rewards. 2 bi' E9 - -i '-1 EQ- ---:,.- Jr, '14 .. - -g -- 1 ,424 ujfs :'1.1,g.. ---H . . 1, -g-- - --H---. -. .. 3, 4:1 --1. g me me - 34 - -, --sg,-.-,. -'1v.'1p',:-:'.'71 - C ' LM-. . , y, -' . rv- N E- . In truth a jewel which makes a christian loved by man. Chastity helps man guard his senses so that they may not cause him to sin. By means of it he regards his body and that of others as temples of Cod and he passes temptation without injury. By continence the passionsyare repressed and man raises his soul unhampered, by things of sense, to God, his Maker. 5 1 Left to Right: Vivian Miller, Jack Mc,-Clurg, Angela Schutz, Karen Jerger, Tom Franke, Rita Diehl, joan Berridge, David Wells, Gertrude Tompkins, joe Honnigford, Carol Grote, Earl Loehrlein, jenn Ruder, Jim Keller, Carolyn Tyner, Karlene Rimroth, Richard VVittgen, Carolyn Chaflin.
