JUNIOR OFFICERS FRONT ROW: Jean Hauck, secretary, Pat Hubert, president, Betty Trock, vice-president, Lorene Holmes, treasurer. BACK ROW: Frank Stone, secretary, Jerry Rietman, president, Gene logel, vice-president, Gene Mattingly, treasurer ln the autumn of 1943, we, the largest Junior class of girls in the records of Memorial High School, donned our white socks and stepped proudly into the ranks of upperclassmen. Wistfully we watched the lucky Seniors initiate the green Freshies, longing for the day when we, as Seniors, would be privileged to inflict like miseries. After our capable class officers were ushered in, we settled ourselves for a year of intense study at test tubes and typewriters. On the memorable Saint Catherine's Day we accompanied the Seniors to Mass and treated them to a waffle breakfast, followed by a thrilling movie at a local theater. We selected our class rings with pains- taking care and iubilantly received them one bright spring day, thereafter displaying them proudly on third finger, right hand. ln March we were entertained with an inspiring performance by our golden-voiced Glee Club. Under the skill- ful guidance of our capable teachers, we mas- tered our subiects true to form and to the best of our ability, we crowned our efforts with a mag- nificent Prom, which all agree was typical of Junior spirit and a credit to Memorial. -l . . . THE GIRLS Time marches on . . . we, the present Juniors entered Memorial in September, 1941 . . . green as any Freshman could be. However, since that time we have participated in innumerable ac- tivities . . . sports . . . student productions . . . scholastic accomplishments. In '41 we published rival newspapers, held our own athletic tourna- ments and took part in the student productions. 1942 . . . the War . . . and we, now Sopho- mores, became more serious, more educated, and best of all we escaped the wiles and trickery of the upperclassmen. During this year we were second in the sale of war bonds and also succeed- ed in placing some of our mates on the varsity football, baseball, and basketball teams. September, 1943, saw the maiority of us back in the classroom again to begin our JUNIOR year - a year of increased activity, responsibility, and scholastic achievement. Several members of the class played on the varsity teams and did ex- cellent work. During the year our dramatic ability was discovered with the result . . . four of the six male characters in the school's annual production, Spring Fever, were Juniors. Then came the Ju- nior-Senior Prom which was one of the most elab- orate Proms in the history of the school. Now that the year is drawing to a close we are beginning to realize and to anticipate the added responsibili- ties which lie ahead of us next year. No doubt some will be serving Uncle Sam in fighting for the glory of our beloved country . . . but those of us who remain to graduate will try to uphold the honor, dignity, and loyalty which becomes a Senior of Memorial High School. . . THE BOYS
