Waterloo. Our new teachers, including some in high school, were Mr. Hafke, who taught civics and managed the boys' manual training. Miss Cooper taught our history. Miss Willis, who is now Mrs. Tom Emmett, taught the girls their home economics. Mr. Marston taught our first year of speech training. Miss Eva John- son trained our musical voices. The Junior High took part in the o eretta,'Dixie Land Minstrel,' under the direction of Miss Johnson. Our class clubs were very numerous this year. We had a history club which was based on the weekly Junior Review and the last half of the year was carried by the Civics Club. Our Eng- lish Club started at the first of the year. We named it after the birthday of Iowa---'The Centennial Club.' Our athletics were conducted by Mrs. Barbour with the girls and Mr. Hafke and Mr. Barbour with the boys. Miss Gardiner was elected class sponsor. We all felt very sorry in leaving the well-known Junior High of the geinbeck School, but we looked forward to a bright freshmen year and on to t e uture. In the fall of 'L7 twenty-eight of us entered R. H. S. as freshmen. Not knowing where to go, we furnished the upperclassmen with many hearty laughs. Being very bashful we were afraid to walk in front of the assembly and we were even afraid to sharpen our pencils. This year we were joined by Barbara Schel- ling and Ramona Halupnick. Our class officers were: President, Kay Tommang Vice-President, Bill Rags- daleg Secretary-Treasurer Marian Bicket3Student Council, Larry Treppg Sponsors, Miss Cooper and Mr. Risdal. Miss Johnson was the producer of the operetta, 'Tulip Time' in which most of us took part. Our annual Christmas party was sponsored by the Student Council this year. The Band Mothers' Club was formed, and they raised money to buy new band suits. In the spring the marching band attended Teachers College Relays and the Drake Relays. We also went to the Northeast Iowa Band Jubilee which was held at Waterloo and the Eastern Iowa Band Festival at Cedar Rapids. By the end of our freshmen year we had gained much confidence and were well acquainted with high school. In the fall of 'L8 we began our Sophomore year in high school. Bill Vest joined our class this year. Our class officers were President,Dale Larsen, Vice-President, Larry Treppg Secretary-Treasurer, Jim Lewisg Student Council, Charlotte Ruhs and later Bill Fluggag Sponsors, Miss Willis and Mr. Maas. The FFA boys had a semi-formal fall dance which was well attended. Later in the year the FHA girls sponsored a jean party at which everyone wore jeans or paid the consequences. This year we won the Northeast Iowa Cedar League football championship by having an undefeated team. The coaches and players were honored at a banquet sponsored by the Legion. During the second semester we lost one of our members, James Roberts, who succumbed after a short illness. We attended the funeral as a group. This year our basketball team remained undefeated until we were defeated by Dike by one point in the County Tournament at Grundy Center. we were sectional basketball hosts to the surrounding schools. Our team went on with their march of victories to the sub-state by winning the sectional and district tournaments. In the last game of the sub-state they suffered their second loss of the year by losing to Waverly. If we would have defeated Waverly, we would have played in the State Tournament. Around 800 people attended the preliminary music contest which was held in our community in the spring of 'L9. Reinbeck received seven firsts. The Glee Club and Mixed Chorus went to the district contest at LaPorte City.
