Reidsville Senior High Is New, Different, And Exciting The opening August 30 of the new Reidsville Senior High School was an event greatly looked forward to by most of the nearly 600 students registering. The students were provided maps to help them get oriented and find classes easier. The overall plan consists of eight sections, or building, con- nected to each other by covered walks and corridors, thus form- ing one integrated building. The entire building is one story, with outside walks and inside corridors. The walls of the halls are tile and the floors are terrazzo. Building I is directly to the left of the entrance and consists of sixteen instructional class rooms and a large room for club meetings. The ceilings of the rooms and halls are covered with acoustical tile, and the floors are terrazzo. The interior walls of the class rooms are gray and are complemented with doors and wood work of bright colors. Each classroom also contains a small office for the teacher. Building II houses the library and administration. Included in the library are a conference room for students, and audio-visual room for showing films and slides, a magazine room, a supply room for storing records, projectors, record players and other equipment, several listening booths for hearing records, and a professional library for the teachers. Lounge furniture is pro- vided in the magazine department. The administration area contains the office of the principal, the guidance counselor, and the school secretary. Also in this section are a reception center, teachers' lounge, conference room, supply and storage rooms, student store, health and guid- ance rooms. is . A Building III contains the commercial education classrooms, a large study hall, and a modern home economics room. Also in- cludedin Building III are the biology, chemistry, andphysic rooms, each with accompanying, ultra-modern laboratories. Buildings IV and V, when constructed, willprovide space for a large auditorium and music department. Perhaps one of the most popular buildings is Building VI, in which one finds a lovely cafeteria equipped with many modern facilities. The dining area is resplendent with its attractive fur- nishings and modern lighting. The kitchen with its many conven- iences and latest equipment is truly the pride of the cafeteria staff. Another popular area is the gymnasium located in Building VII. The entrance of the gym is just to the right of the cafeteria. In the vestibule of the gym is a ticket office and a stairway leading to the basement which contains a concession stand, the dressing rooms, showers, and storage space. The gym has interior walls of yellow and gray with a hard wood floor. The back entrance of the gym leads to the shops, which consti- tute Building VIII. Here are located the agricultural and indus- trial arts departments. Other features are an elaborate blower system which is com- bined with the heating system to circulate air in the classrooms and an inter-communications system which provides means where- by the administrative offices may have contact with all buildings at any time. Reidsville is indeed fortunate to have such facilities to offer to the youth of the community. -.A . L ani' ' A, ,,,. ,mf W' X
