Class of 1943 jA2l1'le Tell me, if you were to become cz lion, what kind of lion would you be? - lVlartial-Epigrams. The quotation above furnished the inspiration for the Theme of our 1950 RENOCAHI. Our answer to that question is: A GOLDEN LION. Why? The Golden Lion which has been a symbol for many years for our athletic teams also best emphasizes the characteristics of Reidsville High School. The lion is intelli- gent, versatile, courageous, and beautiful. These same qualities are exemplified in our school by our classes, clubs, sports, and features respectively. That is why, dear reader, we are using the Golden Lion as a basis for the 1950 RENOCAHI. 5'gx'::,u izbeclicafion HU lzcztlz lwrnc lzimseif lncyozzd tlzu promise of his nge, doing in the figlfre of cz lfmzia, the feats of u lion.-Shuiacspcurc. Its life continued but four short years, but each one was crowded with fun and excitement. The memories of these days will linger in the hearts of each member of the Class of 1950. Our Class had its beginning in 1937. During the first eight years in school we learned the basic funda- mentals of general education. 1t seems now as if those eight years before high school were equal to eight days, for before we knew it we had advanced to the ninth grade. Those first few days of high school brought a special thrill to all of us. It was in September, 1946, that this group of boys and girls first made their appearance in the halls of Reidsville High. Eugene Bondurant, our president in the ninth grade, was assisted by Thomas Saunders, vice-president, Iimmy Faircloth, secretary, and Curtis Stadler, treasurer. VVe chose as our motto Saying is one thingg doing another , and we chose the ologwood as our flower, and blue and white for our colors. Jewel Brame was a cheerleader for us that year. Lorene Moore, .lean McCollum, and Joanne Cox repre- sented our class in the May Court for the May festival. By the next year, we had become quite familiar with school customs so that during our Sophomore year we were able to enioy more functions and activities of school life. Anne Fetzer became a cheerleader that year. Seven boys and girls worked for R.H.S. on the different school teams. Perdita Saunders, Anne Fetzer, and Evelyn Smith were in the May Court in 1948. A mighty event, too, was Field Day, when the Class of '50 took top honors. Elsie Vawter was our president, David Jones, vice-president, Shirley Krites, secretaryg and Bedford McAllister, treasurer. Next came the Junior year. Adrian V1'alkcr, our president, led us through a very eventful year. lle vvas assisted by jimmy Jones, vicefpresident: Alma Letchworth, secretary: and john Carter, jr., treasurer. Miss Crace Frazier was our counselor. The highlight of this year was our Junior-Senior Banquet, featuring May Time Reminiscences. Several students won acclaim in different contests. Patty Lynn won the D.A.R. award for writing a good histor a er. Charlie Bob Oliver won a State French V P p I - V award, lV1artha Lamb, honorable mention in State French contest, and Betty Crey Stiers was Field Dav winner. Christine Clark served as Chief Marshal. Carrying the Daisy Chain we claimed as our special privilege, for it was our part in the Graduation lixerf cises. At last came our Senior year with all of its dignity and importance. VVe began to feel our superiority over the other classes. Gerald King became president, Curtis Stadler, vice-presidentg Betty Cwynn Moore, secretary: David Jones, treasurer: and Miss Anne VVootton, ad- viser. Russell Cloud was elected president of the Student Organization, and Paul Beavers, the treasurer. Anne Huffines and Perdita Saunders took the top honors on the RENOCAHI Staff, and Margaret VVillis became hos- tess of the high school radio program. VVe Seniors feel now that the helpful guidance of our friends, teachers, and principal has prepared us for the hardest years to come. Yes, the Class of 1950 is a remarkable one. Having studied in and having graduated from Pteidsville High School, this class will have to become famous. IEAN RAND ur Skining efigkf In the distance a light is shining, We see our goal, for it is waiting. It is the light at the end of our wavg It is our victorv, our glorious dav. The light awaits with a challenging call. A call with triumph for us all. A crown of success we would attain If we give our service, we shall reign. Here we are in Reidsville, North Carolina, at Falcon Airways, which is owned by Bill Brown and Charles Canady. The huge plane is warming up for Miami Beach to take the Class of 1950 to their reunion. This lovely resort was chosen for the reunion because of the cordial invitations received by each member of the class from multi-millionaires Dewey Paschal, Her- bert Hooper, and playboy Herbert Lovelace, who have fabulous summer homes there. Robert Somers and Jimmy Faircloth, co-pilots of Constellation, are aided by June Bailey and Virginia Hash, very capable stew- ardesses. Oh! Yes! The plane was designed by Gerald King, one of our very successful classmates, who is making a name for himself along with Henry Lee, in the field of engineering. Our newspaper staff, which cannot miss a minute of this glorious event, has arrived. Charles Bob Oliver, editor of the Reiolsville Daily News, and his staff: Barbara Trent, journalist, Jane Kelly, features editor, Helen Lowe, society editorg and Gilbert Smith, reporter, seem to be taking care of all the news. Doctor Peggy Huskey is here with her secretary, Betty Sue Roberts. Jean Rand is a nurse in Dentist Dickie Foster's office. Dieticians Helen Barnes and Betty Dishmon, from Baptist Hospital, are finding out about Martha Lamb's work in the research laboratory at Walter Reed Hospital. Peggy Covington and Marilyn Dixon, pediatricians for a huge hospital out West, are busy talking shop Their hair looks lovely. I wonder if it was fixed by beauticians Mabel Paschal and Jeannette Horde. Well, here come Ronald Greene and John Citty, owners of Mademoiselle Model Agency, escorting their chic models, Betty Gwynn Moore, Jean McCollum. and Betsy Pegram. Following them are ministers Paul Beavers and Russell Cloud, with church workers Ann Huffmes, Lorene Earles, and Gail Pegram. Three cheers for the athletes! Here are those popular softball stars: Rebecca Chrismon, Mary Elizabeth Trent, and Betty Grey Stiers. They are followed by Curtis Stadler and John VVarner of the New York Giants, Alvin Cooke and David Jones of the Yankees. It was announced in yesterday's paper that Adrian Walker and Craig Blackburn have signed contracts with the Bears. Andy Courts is so valuable to the Dodgers, they just won't let him go. Milton Ware, Claude Shumate, and Pete Chaney, football coaches, are discussing their favorite teams. It seems that they have a winning team this year. That's good! Our teachers are arriving. Dorothy Smothers and Margaret Willis, primary teachers, are chatting with Jimmy Jones, principal of our.dear old Alma Mater. Betty Griffin, the French teacher, is admiring a dress that home economics teacher Betty Lou Pritchett made from one of Pattie Grifhn's designs. Christine Clark and Eugene Bondurant are now teaching mathematics at Reidsville High School. Perdita Saunders is teaching physical education here. Robert Morris and Franklin Walker are civil engi- neers in South America. With them are their secre- Page Sixty-eiglzt taries, Billie Ann Adams and Mildred Canady. Behind them is psychiatrist Wesley Borland laughing and talking with his secretaries Anne Fetzer and Joanne Cox. Pattie Lynn and Barbara Alverson, the commercial artists, have just arrived on the field. Sara Troxler, designer, is talking to Kathryn Wil- liamson, who owns the Dress Shoppe. Hooray: Here comes the Navy. Sailors Bobby Moore and Bobby Jones are walking down the aisle behind Admiral Buddy Gunn. Who is that coming toward them? Yes, it is Billy Ware, who owns a beautiful ranch in Montana. Looking for their seats are Marvin Williams, VV. T. Meadow, and Aubrey Ware, who have made good at farming. Our famous pianist, Jack Davis, has just returned from one of his European tours and is now boarding the plane with his manager, Sammy Somers. Ascending the steps is Linwood Chilton, manager of a grocery business here. His assistant manager is Robert Collins. Leroy Warf is also manager of a busi- ness here in Reidsville. Talking with him is Tommy Saunders, who owns a furniture store, and his book- keeper, Dorotheene Bennette. Dorothy Kernodle aids Tommy's customers in selecting their furniture. Oh, there is John Carter, president of the North Carolina Agriculture Association, descending from his limousine with two very attractive secretaries, Mary Leake and Alma Letchworth. We heard that Jimmy Marks has opened a shoe shop in Leaksville. This modern shop was designed by Tommy Walters and built by the Feagin Construc- tion Company, operated by Richard Feagin. The distinguished young man in the dark blue suit is Donald Moricle, a famous lawyer, who recently won for his client a tough murder case. Judge Sam Arthur presided at this much publicized trial. Donald is dis- cussing a legal matter with lawyer Bedford McAlister. Jewel Brame is telling Bedford's secretary, Lorene Moore, about some of her many cases and how she won them. Here comes that never forgotten Jack Benny fan, Reuben Woodall, who is now a radio comedian. To add to the entertainment of Reuben's program, Preston Simmons is featured as pianist. They may be heard over NBC every Thursday night. Well, with the housework, marketing, and last good- bves to everyone, the housewives are arriving. There are Shirley Krites, Christine Harrison, Mary Lee Griffin, Mary Catherine Fuller, and Jane Brown chattering away as mothers and housewives will do. ' With everyone looking forward to this trip with much anticipation, we are on our way.
