Oh, mother, what a laugh the gang would get from that old record! VVhy, Ianie, when I was a senior in high school, that song was the rage. It simply swept the country. UR. H. S. must have been quite different then. No, it was very much the same as it is today. Of course, after nearly twenty-five years some things have changed. Hleepers, but your high school life must have been dull. I should say it was far from being dull. VVC entered the ninth grade with an unusually small class. There is no doubt, though, that we were among the greenest of freshmen. VVe were eager to get to know everyone Raw IIILTTEZVIUI and were quite active in the clubs, war bond drives, plays, and Field Day. When the fall of 1945 rolled around we were overjoyed to lose the iinx of being a freshman to be- come a sophomore. That year, a girl from our class was selected as the 'Snow Queen' in the annual beauty pageant. The football team of R. H. S. had always been among the best and 1945 was no exception. The team marched on victoriously to win the championship. I don't think I shall ever forget that spring day when President Roosevelt died. There were tears in the eyes of almost all of us that sunny morning as we paid tribute to the nation's lost leader. Only a short time later we were iubilant in our celebration of V-E Day, and everyone felt that the days of the Great VVar were almost ended. The world was again at peace when we climbed the eleventh rung of the school ladder to become iuniors. Our class now had leaders in every organization and again the winner of the beauty pageant was a member of our class. For the Iunior- Senior Banquet, we became per- fect ladies and gentlemen and had the time of our lives. Almost before anyone realized it, the year was gone. Carrying the tra- ditional daisy chain, we donned our most serious expressions to usher out into the busy world the largest senior class in the history of Reidsville High School. There were many parties and dances on our social calen- dar. Our favorites were the barn dances, spring formals, and the dances after the football games. Janie, I met your dad at one of those dances. You should have seen us doing the iitterbuglu Gee, I'll bet you were a scream! Well, in spite of our frivoli- ties, we became seniors at last. Everyone was proud of the RENOCAHI, our yearbook, pub- lished by a hard-yvorking annual staff. VVirh great care, the presi- dent of the Student Council, and the May Queen were selected from the senior class. Once again the winner of the beauty pageant was a member of our class. All too soon our high school life came to an abrupt end. On the night of graduation there was a lump in my throat as I realized that it was all over. I knew that from then on I would only be a visitor at good old R. H. S., not one of the laugh- ing students hurrying to class just before the bell. Mother, I've changed my mind about your school life be- ing dull. You know, I believe you had almost as much fun in ! R. H. S. as we have today. Sf ANNE VVILLIAMS, Historian Senior! Oh, ten long years, sir, but we are expecting a large representation here today, replied Denny Aldridge, the mayor of the city. Before the pageant begins, let us mingle with the crowd to see if we know everyone. Who are those two lovely women attracting so much attention? Why, they are Jackie Hooper and Ella Mae hfloricle, two of Alohn Powers most alluring models. Look who iust arrived! lt is George Smith, a very etlicient State Highway Patrolman. He is escorting his sister, Peggy Smith. Iames Curran, prominent New York lawyer, is talking politics with Billy Wilkerson and Dud Apple, local doctors. Iames travels by airplane now, since jimmy Layv, Donald Pegram, and Charles Trent operate one of the safest airway lines, Glancing over the program, 1 notice that Anne Craddock and Dot Gritiin have the roles of The Spirits of the Class of 1948. The program states that the ushers are those men interested in professional sports, namely, Bobby lones, Tommy Comer, VValter Vavvter, Gene Booker, and Mike Stiers. Members of the Iunior Class, you will assume the duties and responsibilities which we have so faithfully performed. We cannot leave the portals of this school without giving you this earnest advice. Even though we have not made full use of our many talents such as art, music, and dramatics, we wish to bestow upon you juniors the ability to rise to greater achievements. We trust that you may derive great satisfaction in so doing. Considering the many hours we have spent on school subjects, it is hard to see how we have found time for our nightly visits to Short's. Of course, sometime during the night, our cars always seemed to run out of gas at those particular places our students visited. VVe would advise you to remain at home and not to indulge in as many social functions. Vlle think that you should concentrate upon your school work. VVc wish to inform you that in order to uphold the high scholastic standards and to satisfy these peculiar teachers, you will have a strenuous task ahead of you. VVc sympathize with you wholeheartedly. VVe find it hard to visualize the athletic teams of next year for our twenty-four percent of great athletes will be absent. VVe wish you luck for you will certainly need it. lndeed, it will be hard to find the good manners of this class equaled bv any other. Sullicient proof will be found bv questioning our teachers.
