C. SJ. ' - CLIFF SHELLY STUDIOS TH AT WONDERFUL YEAR sister m. jarlath We, the staff, are proud to dedicate the 1961 Chi-Rhoan to you, Sister Mary Jarlath. Your hard work as sponsor of previous yearbooks has served as an inspiration and guide for us. Little did we realize five years ago when you inaugurated the first Chi-Rhoan, that it would come to hold such a cherished place in the hearts of all RHS students. The measure of your influence cannot be weighed. We only hope that this Chi-Rhoan will serve as a worthy tribute to you. Twenty-third and Windsor is a mem- orable corner for the students of RHS. Each morning four hundred students en- ter the doors of Reicher High where they are given the opportunity of developing academically, socially, and spiritually. Our lives not only evolve around the school but extend into the community as well. Our lives become more meaningful because we learn qualities of understand- ing, leadership, and friendliness. At the end of the year, we all recall the events that have made the previous school year so memorable. For some of us, this Chi-Rhoan presents a picture of the last of our high school days. For others, it is a symbol of the initial period of school life, but for all of us it is sym- bolic of the knowledge we have gained, the impressions we have formed and the fun we have enjoyed during 1961. I! as gl 4,. 4' J' sl REICHER 6 - KIRWIN 20 The Cougars ran into the big Red of the coast and were defeated by the bigger 4AAAA team. Kirwin, runner- up to state champ Jesuit, capitalized on the breaks to score three touchdowns the first halfg but Reicher's feared pass- ing attack with Tommy Husbands com- pleting l9 passes, ten of them to end Ieff Farmer, came back to score in the second half. It doesn't look itg but Jeff Farmer picks up a first down on a pass from Tommy Husbands. REICHER 26 - MEXIA 22 Fitting for the inaugural game at Reicher's new stadium was one of the most exciting games of the year. Riding the arm of Tommy Husbands, the running of Bobby Landon and Johnny Martin, and the defensive skills of Ioe Bradley and Gene Leuschner, the Cougars came from behind to snuff out Mexia and their hopes of an upset. Pat Stoltze, the spark plug of the Cougar's defense, played an outstanding game against Marlin. REICHER 13 - MARLIN O Playing their best game of the year, the Cougar line outcharged the Bulldogsg and Johnny Martin out-ran them as he scored the first TD on a 55 yd. run. Pat Stoltze led the great defensive effort along with Bill Williams, Jeff Farmer, Gene Leuschner, Joe Bradley, Bob Landon, and Robert Donel- len. REICHER 14 - LA VEGA 36 The Cougars caught hold of a hot pirate early in the game and could never catch up. At the start of the second-half Johnny Martin electrified the crowd with an 89 yard kick-off return. Throwing great blocks to clear the way were Joe Bradley, Jeff Farmer, Bob Lan- don, Bill Lamb and Frank Pritch. Charles Tusa catches the runner from behind as the . wx' rest of the players look on. I sa, 5 N F Rid'em Cowboy, as Joe Bradley bulldogs a runner to the ground. REICHER 32 - ST. MARKS 8 On the third play of the game, Johnny Martin re- covered a fumbled pitchout and traveled 60 yards for the back-breaking TD. Getting back on the winning side, the Cougars combined its explosive offense and its stifling defense to easily conquer St. Marks. Ro- bert Donnelen, and Joe Bradley were two of the de- fensive stars. Bob Landon proves that big things can go through little holes, as he lunges through the Mexia line. REICHER 15 - HEARNE 28 Traveling to Hearne, the Cougars could never jell their pass defense against Hearne's great passer. How- ever, the Cougar offense showed some spark on the running of Bobby Landon and Johnny Martin, the pass- ing of Tommy Husbands, and the catching of Jeff Farmer. Martin and Bradley haul down a Mexia runner as the half ends. REICHER 42 - CENTRAL CATHOLIC 20 Playing his best game of the year, Johnny Martin broke through the large Central line for three long TD runs. The whole Cougar offense was brilliant as it moved the ball at will. Come on, Coach, let me in! REICHER 6 - GATESVILLE 24 The Reicher Cougars invaded the nest of the Gates- ville Hornets and succumbed to one of the states most powerful ZAA teams. Although the Cougars out-ran, out-passed, and out-played them, the Hornets capi- talized on the second-half breaks to pull out the win. Cougar standouts were Joe Bradley, Bobby Landon, Tommy Husbands, and Jeff Farmer. .W no 'K AJ X.t...- - Somebody slow him down! REICHER 20 ' IESUIT 32 The Cougars went to Dallas with title hopes, but had them smashed by the bigger Rangers. Outweighed by 20 lb. per man, the Cougars played brilliantly, but just couldn't match the Rangers powerful running attack. For playing an outstanding game against Jesuit and through the year, Johnny Martin was se- lected to the J. C. I. C. all-state team while Jeff Farmer was given honorable mention honors. A moment with God before the game.
