KEARNS, V. G. We, the seniors, are proud to have been a part of your dream, the dream of a Catholic high school in Waco. We hope that our lives will give you reason to be proud that we were the object of your hopes, prayers and sacrifices. For these, for yoursplendid example of Christian living, your personal interest and your friendship, we dedicate the CHI-RHOAN of 1958 to you, Monsignor Kearns. Daily practice re- sults in skilled typists. Apprentice mathematicians learn from Mr. John Vasek not only to solve for X but also to understand the solving process. Aspiring bookkeepers pre- pare their ledgers, and their futures, under the supervision of Sister Margaret Ellen. The ability to speak well is an important asset, no matter what the years have in store for these boys. Progress in articulation is checked frequently by means of the tape recorder. LEARNING THE SKILLS FOR BETTER LIVING Before eager seamstresses begin to stitch, they learn from Sister M. Blanche to select appropriate pat- terns and materials as well as to understand the art of homemaking. Relaxing in their model apart- ment while they await the results of an experiment in baking is the K privilege of Home Ee students. l Obviously the preparation of a tasty salad dressing is no laughing matter. Junior high girls learn that leafy green vegetables really do make for happier and healthier living. EXPLORING THE COMPOSITION OE THE EARTH . . Weighing chemicals demands precision and exactitude from both Sister Margaret Ruth and Senior scientists. -.,,,J The eyes have it. Have what? Appearing in fall, Christmas, and spring concerts and singing in neighboring towns, the Junior and Senior Choruses, under the direction of Sister Harriet Jeanne, experienced one of their finest and busiest years. Besides purchasing gowns for the junior group, the choruses added to their music library and ac- quired a baby grand piano. UPLIFTING THE SPIRIT . . if Q, X Four-year choral members, Marilyn Trautschold, Lupe Hernandez, Genevieve Slovak, and J. P. Davis appreciate the new piano. Five tableaux highlighted the Christmas Cantata. Here, accepting the gifts of the Magifil. Moore, M. Jones, H. Eberhartj are Mary Uoannc Rosej and Joseph fKenneth Jankj. TO OBEY THE MIND Eighth grade athletes show their love of baseball by their enthusiastic smiles. Dancing, enjoyed here by the 7th grade, manifests the variety suessed by the Physical Education program. An impressive pyramid, the achievement of the '7th grade tumbling class, was realized with the help of senior advisors. Friendliness, good sportsmanship and a spirit of fair play are requi- sites for play and for life. These qualities, an asset to the individual and to the school, are instilled at C.H.S. by MIS. I. Marek, girls' athletic instructor. Smiles light up the faces of the seventh graders as they await the lunches served by Mrs. Jacobs, Mrs. Eison, and Mrs. Lang- lotz. X. IN AND AROUND C.H.S. AND WE'LL RECALL EACH MEMORY ONE AND ALL Four years ago Catholic High School opened its doors as the first co-educational Catholic high school in Waco . . . four years ago we seniors were wide-eyed fresh- men. As those years have been fruitful, significant years ir1 the life of both students and school, our 1958 CHI-RHOAN would not be complete without some mention of the many memories we share with our Alma Mater. As a senior smiles in amusement at the enthusiastic efforts of a freshman, so, too, can our school look back with amusement at its early efforts to become what a school I E I AUHIU XUIIDYEEY rf E J..J' itll should be. However, now that achievement and progress are reflected in every gleam- ing tile and brick of our beautiful building, we must not let ourselves forget those basketball games that didn't always turn out right . . . the new football uniforms that implied long hours of practice and more practice . . . the first efforts of our quite amateur paper, The Cougar Chronicle, to record the news, or the first Latin Conven- tion and the S. S.C. A .... raising the money to purchase choral gowns . . . singing for school and social affairs. Inspection by State educators found us ready after three busy years to receive offi- cial scholastic accreditation. The diplomas received by the graduates of C. H. S, are an Open Sesame to any college in the nation. Four short years have made dignified seniors of us . . . and an ideal school of Cath- olic High School, reminding us of the words of an editorial in the first COUGAR . . . C. H. S. is our schoolg it is ours to take care of and ours to bui1d. We want our pastor, our parents, and our teachers to know that we are grateful for . . . these treasured years at C. H. S. .
