REGULUS shipmates, families and friends, Directly or indirectly, for varying periods of time and in varying degree, you are each associated with an elite group dedicated to the preserving the freedom of the United States - our Navy. As sailors you are called upon to sacrifice a measure of personal identity and independence for the common good. Being a member of the REGULUS team, and indeed the Navy, demands initiative, patience, courage, integrity, hard work and a better than average sense of humor. ln fact it asks every good thing of you -in order to protect those who need protection. Conversely it offers enormous rewards - pride in being a part of an honorable profession, in accomplishing a difficult task, in a fob well done. For the families and friends, all is not without sacrifice on your part either. ln fact the long separations are surely more difficult for you than us. However, you have every reason to know that your sacrifices are not in vain and to be iustifiably proud of yourself and yours, and the part you play in the cause of liberty.
