Members of the Soph All-Star football team and of the Champion 2-D team included Jack Duffy, Ray Schappert, and --of course-Jack Dempsey . . . The Varsity Swimming squad counted Joe Junker as a stand-out . . . The Swimming intra- murals found the 2-D lads copping all top Soph honors- Bruce McAllister captured first place in the free-style sprint, while Archie Fleming and Don Metz took the breast-stroke and back-stroke events, respectively . . , The highlight of the year for nine of the B'hoys was the game against St. Peter's, of Staten Island, when they serenaded the natives of the Island. 26 Back Row: R. SPOTLIGHT ON 2-A: We began the daily exodus to The Place early in the year . . . Our intra-mural teams proved them- selves formidable warriors, and won the respect of all their opponents . . . Distinction goes to Gerry Ettlinger, who is on the Jay-Vee roster . . . Don Grady, Bob Mirabile, and Joe Murphy ably represent us on the staff of the Owl . . . Charlie McGroddy and Jack Kelly are on the swimming team . . , Ray Adams won the gold medal for his performance in Julius Caesar , Dick Coleman, Don Grady, Bennett McKinnon, Pete Matthews, Jack Fagan, also gave distinguished performances for the Fall Play , . . We placed center Joe Merklin and ends Dick Zeffer and Dick Collins on the Soph All-Star football team . . . George Bouvet and John Sheridan not only starred for the Jay Vee, but acted as the Class athletic managers and led the team to an unde- feated season and the title in intra-mural basketball . . . The Fall Play drew from us the aid of Ken Lally . . . Jim Whelan clicked as a shutter-bug, and we placed Bob Golden on the Quartcrly staff . . . In the musical department, we were well represented by Bob Stanton in the Orchestra and Denis Woods in the Glee Club . . . We finished fourth in the Thanksgiving Driveg this was mainly due to the hard work of our Veep, Jim Whelan, who in addition was Secretary of Soph Debate . . .
