CYQ URING the past few years splrltual educatlonal and r reatlonal advan tages have been mcleased for the graduates of St Patr1ck s A chapter of the Cathohc Youth Organ1zat1on was started for the older boys ln St Patrrck s From the first a great deal of lnterest was shown At first the CYO was only for the gr d uates but they voted to allow tl e upper cla s rn n of hr h school belong Meetlngs were held regularly officers elected and plans made for a basketball team that would com pete wlth other CYO teams from other par lshes The fellows practlced at nl ht be c use th t was the only t m they had frce The CYO games were played on Sunuay afternoons The rollovw 1ng sprlng the C r'O gave a mln strel And what a show' One of the be t amateur shows ever put on ln our c1ty sald the oally newspaper Afte that the group declded that th y mx ht as wx ell hay e a httle fun ww 1th the money they had wo! ked so hard to earn through the nm trel so they gate a May Ball a truly lox ely affalr Dy thls tmc the whole clty the May B ll one saw almo t s mam out snlers as memLe s of the CW O xtself The affalr was a huge success Through the ummer months the club was not as actxve as It had been but It d1d have 1 club breakfast after all had recexved com munlon one Sunday mormng An ICG cream soclable was also gxven The followlng fall a CYO club was started for the guls and the1r mterest and 8I1lll llSl sm wx as as great as that of the boys They held then' m etlngs as regularly as the boys Howex er xx 1th the open ng ot the g11ls LX O Jolnt meetmgs dex elo el At these meetmf programs are glven games played ddlltlflg and of course lunch It IS easy to ec that thes two org n 1 tlons ha e accor 1pl1sl td much xn the hort S1 aww e With the Editor tlme they have been organlzed For one thing It has given these young people a place to go a place around whlch a great many of thelr lnterests are centered It stxmulates '1 qualntances that began 1n hlgh school and keeps them 1n closer contact wlth the church Slnce th1s organlzatxon has been so success ful why not a CYO unxt for the lllgh schoor 1rls 'P The boy s have one and they have been ucce sful vshy not the grrls?
