Women ' s Intramural Football Wts H mc -  w   The women of Regis College showed again in 1974 that they could be just as aggres- sive, violent, and sadistic as their male counterparts as Women ' s Intramural Football seethed over the intramural gridiron. Such teams as the Mother Truckers proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that the gals can look every bit as foolish (if not more so) than the more ludicrous men ' s teams. Other teams like Our Gang and Hodags showed a great deal of potential and spoke well of the girl ' s competitive spirit and athletic fortitude. Women ' s Intramural Football has become a Sunday afternoon tradition, with double- headers very popular. But once again the old Wild World tradition prevailed, as D.B. ' s tied with Our Gang for the championship. bullish on America. 155 Nice Cut! Foxy Ladies can ' t get it together. Men ' s Intramural Football In 1974 that bastion of power, the 1973 season champs KOK crumbled as the Hootch seized from them the title of Champion. Described by the now extinct Wild World of Sports as the ever-promising-never-producing Hootch, ' the team finally got it all together this year and stole the show. This season saw the return of four teams: The Brothers, the Geeks, Hootch, and KOK. The Brothers proved to be a worthy opponent. The Geeks came into the season as reigning cham- pions—they had risen to victory in last season ' s Toilet Bowl. The DOA ' s, who were handed the agony of defeat in that game of cellar dwellers, transformed themselves into KAOS for the 1974 sea- son. 158 On Intramural Field Cootch and Fred pick grass for Ewald. Pops is getting whipped and moed. Ya ain ' t seen nothing yet? Men ' s Intramural Football Championship Despite a cold rain which drenched field, players, and spectators alike, the annual Men ' s Intramural Football Championship Game was played under the lights on the night of October 29, 1974. Clashing in this battle for the number one spot were Hootch and KOK. The undefeated Hootch and defending champs KOK were evenly matched for this pivotal contest. Both teams were equal in pas- sing and running ability; both had excellent defenses. Hootch had a slight advantage of KOK, though, in that it had beaten the 1973 champions once during the ' 74 season. KOK scored first, but Hootch followed close behind. At the half Hootch had doubled KOK ' s score, leading the defending champs by a score of 1 2-6. A pass by KOK quarterback Pops Devot completed to Terry Pollard tied KOK with their opponent, 12-1 2. The game was sent into sudden death overtime, each team receiving four plays form the fifty yard line. The team that scored the most yardage would be the winner. A pass from Hootch ' s Joe Havorka to Dave Foley who bounded 40 yards for the touch- down. KOK, needing to score in order to tie, were not up to the ordeal, and Hootch took their place on the champion ' s pedestal, winning 18-12. 163 Soccermen Seek Teamwork Walsh and McGrath mount a drive against C.S.U. 164 To Score Soccer The Regis Soccer squad ' s discouraging 2-8-1 record did not reflect the effort the team put into the game. At the start of the season, Coach Karl Stumpff emphasized the fact that the team includes ten returning lettermen and several promising freshmen. The team sought to integrate each player ' s individ- ual style into a process of team work but their efforts could not reverse the fact that Regis was to face teams that in many cases were far more experienced than they were. Spurred on by Coach Jim Karabetsos and powered by wildly en- thusiastic fans, the Regis College Rangers completed an impressive season of wins and losses. With promising new talent added to the ranks of veterans like Tony DuCros and Lee Gray, the Regis netmen were practically indomitable on the home court. Their overpowering skill gained them a tie for the Rocky Moun- tain Athletic Conference championship. I «MMt (■% Dear Reader: When Jim Croce wrote and recorded the song, If I Could Save Time in a Bottle , he embodied what we felt was our responsibility as staff of the 1 975 Ranger. Our entire goal throughout the year was to record the moments in everyone ' s college career that have become cherished memories. However, as we all know memories can and do fade. With the wonderments of photography, we have been able to capture and record everlasting the events of this past year. We hope that the 1975 Ranger will enable you to remember the happenings of 1 975-76 both today and ten years from today. Our wish was to make this book student oriented. If you can follow as we have followed for the past four years the change from a closed to an open atmosphere, from apathy to concern, from many to one, from school to Regis College, we feel this book is only the rep- resentation of a concerted effort on the part of everyone to realize a goal. The goal as we have portrayed it is a student senate that works for the students, a basketball team that may lose but always wins, or- ganizations that thrive while those elsewhere flounder, and people that walk with their heads high instead of counting cracks in the side- walk. In simple terms, this book is a salute to every student. It is now our privilege to recognize the people who made this Ranger possible. The Regis Photographers Club did the photography for us and our thanks go to Paul Rusin, Pat Barron, Donny Williams, Jerry Hedrick, Tom Jagger, Tom Komadina and Jeff Rieth. A special pat on the head is in order for Bill Hanagan who handled the tough job of organizing and running the club in this its first year. To the Ranger Staff, a thank you does not seem adequate to express our appreciation for the hours and effort tallied. The pride and dedication of these people is reflected in their work. We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Mark Digman, who with his cap- tions and wit tempered pressure with humor; Tom Tully, whose technical assistance made our ideas reality; and Bill Callahan, whose cre- ative pen and salesmanship made the Ranger a financial success. To these and a host of others, we say thank you and together with them we hope you enjoy this book as much as we have enjoyed bringing it to you. Holly Butzen, Editor angelo, texas 304 .M 9m.
