As we began our education here at Regis in 1978 we also undertook the mutual task of making the dream of a sports facility we could be proud of a reality. In our four years here at Regis we have not only come to realize the value of an education but also the value of working cooperatively towards the attainment of a common goal. 90 As we graduate we will be rewarded with more than a degree, we will take with us the knowledge that a dream is nothing more than a reality in need of effort and faith. This is a lesson which escapes the realm of all textbooks. Truly, we, the Class of 1982 are carrying away within ourselves a ‘New Dimension.’ 91 I MENS SANA IN CORPOPV.E SANQ T) u ' ' ai A Most assuredly, the date November 21, 1981 will occupy a place of prominence the history of Regis College, for it marked the opening of the new three million dollar athle- tic facility. Anxious with growing anticipa- tion, this day found the atmosphere of the Regis community to be electric. Sister The- rese Higgins and Ellen Beaumont, SGA President, addressed an audience of trust- ees, faculty, parents, and students. The ex- citement of the day was captured in the enthusiastic support displayed at the first annual Regis College Sports Invitational which was also an important part of this grand opening day. The performances of the basketball, cross-country, and swim teams proudly demonstrated the athletic potential of Regis sports. Under the skillful guidance of Athletic Director David Cowens and his dedicated staff, this athletic facility will fur- ther encourage the development of the women of Regis. PARENTS 98 99 p The Cap and Gown ceremony is a tradi- tional event at Regis. It is the official investi- ture of the senior class. The event entails the celebration of Mass which at its conclusion each senior individually approaches the altar where faculty sponsors help each student put on the garb. The sponsors were S. Ceci- lia Agnes Mulrennan, S. Mary Oates, S. Jeanne d’Arc O’Hare, and Dr. Warren Grib- bons. This year S. Therese Higgins spoke to the Seniors about the historical significance of the gown and mortar board. Senior Class President, Erin Gorman addressed her class- mates with a memorable speech which stressed the individuality women possess. Sister Therese, whose mother was also present led the group in grace before the meal began. Other distinguished guests included Sister Zita Fleming, the Dean of Students and Sister Helen Sullivan, the Assis- tant Dean of Students. Frank Avruch, the host of WCVB’s television show. “The Great Entertain- ment” delighted the crowd with film clips and trivia of the era of Crawford, Garbo, and Gable.
