Who is the new woman ? What is it that distinguishes her from her counterpart of the forties and the fifties ? Is this new woman definable, or is she, in essence, the same woman whose spirit now responds in a fuller manner ? We see the new woman as one who is increasingly perceptive to demands placed upon her power of creativity and her ability to transcend the bounds of her family and immediate friends. In her striving to become an integral part of her college community, the Regis student freely imbibes knowledge, ideas and attitudes on a two-fold level. Each academic discipline con- tributes in a unique manner to the emerging of the new woman and to the development of the power ofeach individual to mature and to share. Each of the four college years contributes in a unique way to the continual maturing process of the self, giving depth of thought and breadth of imagination to the high school graduate. The Regis woman is also accorded manifold opportunities for development on another level through lectures, intercollegiate discussions, catechetical, hospital and social work services, gov- ernment mathematics projects, and through departmental clubs, student publications, drama, and music. Each one’s participa- tion in various areas springs from her desire for an expression of creativity initiated within her through contact with her teachers, her associates, and books. Expanded into the spirit of commitment to others, it is this personal creativity, defined as a new selflessness, that is yet as old as mankind. It is this truly Christian spirit of selflessness of which St. Paul speaks when he admonishes one to “put on the new man.” College Life
