Graduating from high school also marks THE END OF THE BEGINNING” of our way on the road to maturity, to womanhood. We now leave this formative, or beginning period of our lives to venture to other frontiers. This is the point at which each girl feels responsible for deciding what she will do with the edu- cation of twelve years. Yes, it is the end of a beginning we are privileged to have been a part of — the building of Regina High School — not as much creators of this physical plant as creators of a spirit that marks Regina as a dynamic gathering of loving persons. We step now from such a vital unity towards the beginning of a new life. For most of us there will be college educations; for others full-time jobs or marriage or religious life. We never like to sec the end come for something that has lasted four long years and, in spite of its length and challenge, has been fun. But we graduates must remember, it’s only the end of a beginning and not the beginning of the end!

Departing from this old school, we left behind as well, wide halls, creaky staircases and radiators, large sunny windows, a fire escape, a combination lunchroom-study hall through which traipsed all the giggling, panting gym classes, a tiny library, a crackerbox-sized auditorium with a stage that once saw unbelievable mythology skits and Saint Patrick’s Day programs, and, of course, the candy store at the corner. Entering the new building, we quickly adapted to the new environment — to midget lockers, two-block hikes between classes, a public-address system, candy machines, two stages, an office for the custodian, official study halls, electric eraser-cleaners, and a classroom for every teacher. We arc “THE END OF THE BEGINNING” of Regina High School. We are the last of the pioneers to have “lived” at the old school on Wentworth Avenue. Indeed, we were pioneers “roughing it” in a school built to accommodate about half the girls enrolled at Regina. We rather enjoyed the inconveniences — study hall at the crowded collapsible cafeteria tables, chorus practice on the steps, religion class in the typing room, gym uniforms stashed in hall lockers, the principal’s office so near everything, geometry in the biology room amidst frogs, chickens, and mice.
