An unknown donor at the Christmas Party seems to be asking Grace Smith, How tbout a nice Hawaiian Punch:w F oreword A pattern is anything which is designed to be a model for something else. As such, patterns of education fall into many categories Beginning with the classroom, they extend through extra- curricular and social activities to those of a cultural and socially entertaining nature, Ail of these help to form us in one way or another. The ctassroom guides our intellectual development, giving us facts and thoughts which promote an interest in knowledge. Through extra-curriculars we learn the basis of co-Opcration with others in working towards a goal. We attain social poise by associa- tion with others both in and out of school. Since there are many things in life which we dontt understand, cultural activities can point to solu- tions of many of these. On the lighter side, entertainment helps us to enjoy all of the other things moret Each of these contributes to our development, and so should be important to us now as well as later. Twenty-five years Now, in his twcnty-Efth year at Regina High School, Mr. Mecklenborg continues to imprint his mark of achievement by directing Reginais Gfee Club and Orchestra An accomplished musician himself, he strives to perfect these two groups in the same manner. This high degree of perfection is demonstrated in the quality of their performances each year. In addition to working towards hne per- formances, Mr. Mecklenborg also develops in the students an appreciation and understanding of a great variety of music. With Characteristic humility he would disclaim any praise acknowledging him. For this reason, we dedicate this yeafs book of memories to Mr. Cletus Mecklenborg. The Queen City The peaceful reflections of this skyline create a facade of stillness, camouflaging the endless activity within. Music, drama, art, lectures, and entertain- ment of all types vascillate throughout the lights and shadows of the entire city, creating patterns of culture to fill a void left by a scientific world. Schools can only begin a process of learning The process must be complemented by activities beyond those in the classroom. The city, then, offers a variety of these activities in its theaters, art displays, lecture halls, and Music Hall. The Queen City is a valuable complement to Regina High School. Catholic youth week This year Regina acknowledged Catholic Youth Week by a series of class competitive activities, such as volleyball, free-throw bas- ketball, and relay races. These activities were climaxed by an assembly, which the whole student body attended. At the assembly Mr. Mecklenborg, Orchestra and Glee Club di- rector, entertained the students with a con- cert, followed by Reginafs own version of The Mulch Game. In this way, the education at Regina has always attained the maximum improve- ment that it needetii The parents also contribute their financial support in various ways, such as rafHes and parent- teacher projects. The members of ReginaTs Welfare also sacrifice their time to chaperonc dances and other ex- tra-curricular schooi activities. Ask Sister Mary Aubert if you donlt believe it Mary Holdgrave explains her ideas to Father Trick for a future religious assembly. With that smile on her face, its easy to guess that Miss Stauss is on her way to lunch. Reginals faculty is composed of Fifty four mem- bers with degrees in religion, English, history, sci- ence, and various other fields. However, this is not the only thing that makes her faculty outstanding; their willingness to Walk things out,, with a stu- dent, even if the problem is not related to their particular field, also helps. This added personal touch aSSures a student that at any time she may receive advice from any faculty member. Such per- sonal interest also brings about a better relationship between faculty and students. Dedication, under- standing, and genuine concern for pupils, along with their own educational background are all a part of the eHort to provide Regimfs students with the best. Reginais Chapter of A.V.E. serves to ac- quaint its members with the aspects of religious life Its major project is Vocation Day. This year, postulants from the Precious Blood Mother-house showed the brighter side of life in the convent, A.V.Efs Christmas party gives the girls an opportunity to associate with sis- ters socially, The student body can learn of reiigious life and express their views on the subject by using the book display which is available in the library at all times. The ef- forts of this organization, under the direction of Sister Mary Palmarita, has succeeded in eliminating most of the one-sided views on religious life. Regina interracial council The Regina Interracial Council is one of Reginais newest organizations. The purpose of the Council is to informv With the correct information concerning the people of various races, the prejudices that often arise due to a lack of under- standing are lessened. Since it was estab- lished in 1965, the Council has grown considerably. A Federation has been formed involving the area Catholic high schools, called the Human Relations Fed- eration, and it is now afhlated with the Catholic Interracial Council. Had it not been for the eHorts of Sister Mary Timothy, moderatori the Council could not have advanced to the extent that it has. The continued success of the Council depends on the studentsi acceptance of it as their means of eliminating a problem which only takes a little understanding and action to solve. Once a month the members have a day of recoi- lection at which they attend Mass and hear speakers talk on subjects related to their activities. At Christmas Sodalists initiated a project for the men in Viet Nam by urging the student body to write them letters of encouragement and they provided toy-hlled stockings for the children from broken homes at the Allen House. No, ills Sue-per-Prusl Can Sue Cassidy, alert editor of the Beacon, really read with her eyes clased? uAllaround the mulberry bush . . . Education of the underclassmen begins in the classroom. Through class projects and activities the girls are taught co-operation as well as how to as- sociate with others. Classroom activities also give the girls an opportunity to grow in knowledge by expressing their particular views on various sub- jects. This knowledge is increased even further through extracurricular activities associated with Eelds of study such as: French, Spanish, Science, Speech and Dramatics, Sodality, and F.T.A. Thus, the pattern of underclassmen begins to take shape. Freshmen realize what is expected of them as responsible high school students; Sopho- mores look hopefully toward the future when they will assume the leadership of the school; Juniors prepare to accept the challenge that will be en- trusted to them as Seniors. 60 Jeanne Atkinson Ellen Bandy Regina Barnn Connie Bcckmnn Gayls Bccsmn Marv BCJ ltrsnn Julie Benz Maryllo Beresl'ord Donna Bcrling Nancy Besscnbach Dianne Bnhmer Elaine Bomkamp 'joAnne Bovc Sandy Braun Susan Brennan Carol Brockman Mary Bree Diane Brown Lois Buescher Eunice Bummer Chris Busemeyer Dianne Calloway Roscann Cappcl Mary Sue Cassidy Deborah Calvard Ann Cissell Lois Clark Peggy Clark Susan Cline Angela Cobb Marilyn Cogliano Becky Cole Constance Coleman Linda Corwver Cynthia Cook Juniors .chan Costello Mary Crccclen Catherine Dciu'rs Mary Dennig Doris DcNoma Julia Deskins .szcl Deters Diane Diesel As I was saying th-n vou l'mu11hc sidelines with an upset smmzu'iL or n muthauhr. mks . . 61 Frilzeen Domineack Anne Dunnellun Ellen Doylc Beth Dreibelbis Patricia Ebel Deborah Egglcsmn Sharyn Faulkner Gayle Fine Linda Flammcr Nancy Frambes Beth Frankland Debbie Franklin Michele Fritz Cathy Fussner Peggy Gallagher Nancy Gallenstein Diane Gano Paula Gcers Eileen Gcoppinger Joan Gibson Ursula Gille Diane Glaning Peggy Glenn Sally Golden Maureen Grannen Diana Gribble .Ianei Grossi Linda Grow Susan Grote Loretta Guy Jean Habig Jeanne Haines 62 janic Hall Penny Hall Mary Hammann Charlene Hanrahan Bonnie Harrison Mary Lee Hausfeld Rita Haverkamp Kathy Havlin Susan Hayes Linda Henggeler Barbara Hesslebrock Jackie Hill Sharon Hill MargareI Holly .Iudy Hnlxmeier Sandra Huwel Suejucksnn Debbiejoncs Kathy .Iunes Linda Kelmp uWell. This enables those Juniors and Seniors who are planning to attend the prom to have ample time to prepare themselves for this outstanding occasion. It is, then, on this day, that we see many of the upperciassmen stylishly adorned with variations of hair decor, Naturally adding to their beauty, the girls are proud to show off the many devices which they employ in order to gain this Email goal. In addition to those who turn the school into a beauty salon, there are those who prepare in other ways. A good example of this is Donna Lamb, who doesnit plan on falling asleep at the prom. Everyone present had to admit though, that all this preparation was well worth the effort. 125 The Queen and her Court Junior-senior Anne Dnnnellon, prom Chairman, crowns Paulette Meyer Reginefs 1966 prom Queen. The first event of the year to which a senior looks forward is meeting her little sister. Through- out the year a senior offers friendship and guidance and becomes a model for the freshmen to follow. No senior will forget the day she re- ceived her class ring, which she will always wear proudly. Another event that a senior is not likely to forget is the Senior Class PlayeWest Side Story. Also among her more pleasant memories is the Senior retreat, held this year at Maria Stein Retreat House. Along with spring come job inter- views, acceptances from colleges, and the realiza- tion that soon she will be accepting an even greater amount of responsibility. Friends, worries, joys, and expectations all make the senior year a most exciting and memorable one. 142 Pamela M. Bail Dorothy L. Baldwin Sandraj. Becker Mary E. Bennett Barbara'I.
