ANCILE SINCE THE YEAR 01: 1T5 CONCEPTION, 1929, Regimfs Yearbook has been called the Regina ANCILE. Many have questioned why we use this title amt we of the 1964 ANCILE staff feel that we should give the xfmt'elzts a clearer understanding of its Iizeaning. During the reign of Nmmz, an ancient Roman I'u'Izg, there fell 'from heaven a great shield, which all the people thought belonged to Mars, the god of war. The Romans believed that the prosperity of their eity depended on this shield; therefore, they protected it with their lives. In. order to prevent the theft of the shield, eleven facsimiles of the ANe CILE, as it was called, were nmde 30 that a thief could not distinguish the original among 50 many. The twelve shields were placed in the temple of Mars where the priests constantly watched them. just as the mzeienf Romain jealously guarded their ANCILE, we Regimens should treasure all that we have acquired as students at this sehool-the experiences, the friends, the knowledge, and the increased love of our religion. These are the very things we have tried to express in our 1964 ANCILE. We hope that all Regilzians will guard and Cherish them. REGINA HIGH SCHOOL NORWOOD, OHIO
