REFLECTIONS FROM LIFE'S POOL I laid me down on a bank of green with flowers all about, And as the soft clouds hurried by, the April sun came out. All sleepy and comfy there on the bank by the edge of a tranquil pool, Came a pang to my heart and a saddening thought - I'd soon be leaving school! When all of a sudden, into the pool, a tiny raindrop fell, And I lazily watched the tiny waves as they flowed so fast, pell-mell. They spread and spread to the edge of the pool, when-what? Oli, I rubbed my eyes, It wasn't rain, but people small, who dropped from the gray-blue skies. And while I wondered and quaked with fear, a soft voice from near by, Said, Be not afraid, O Senior dear, but listen to me - draw nigh, And you will hear, for I shall tell, fwith words I shall be thriftylj The pool is the world, and the droplets small, the class of l950. 'Twas gladly I jumped at this wonderful chance, and we gaily floated away, O'er mountains and rivers and valleys we sped, adrift for a night and a day. And I saw once more my classmates dear beneath the clear blue sky, Each striving to paint life's masterpiece with the help from God on high. Pursuing hopes and dreams and plans with never-ending zeal, They proved to men that life is good and God above is real. At length I stretched and rubbed my eyes, the voice, I found, was gone. But I looked once more at the gray-blue skies, and the clouds as they floated on, And I knew my dream was nothing more than a hope for the future fair When our class will have gathered sheepskins and scattered here and there. As the waves come back to the edge of the pool, so our class will come once more To recall the thoughts of their high school days and the joys that have gone before From the big wide world where they have spread, their fortunes to pursue, Regina will call them back once more, and they'll come - for they always do. So, too, when the tranquil pool is dry, and the journey of life is o'er, They'll find they need no earthly gifts, for God will open the door To all who've toiled and worked for Him - this then will He relate, 'Tis work well-doneg 'tis a life well-lived that I see in your pool of fate. Sister Fides smiles approvingly at the diligence of the girls! Reginians make good use of the card catalogue the library. Ann discovers that even the low shelves carry interesting information. When we Reginians start something, we finishl it. It all began in February-Catholic Press Month -when we celebrated Catholic Book Week. Miss Kohorst's sophomore English class depicted Father james Keller's popular book, You Can Change the World, so well they won the blue ribbon. This slogan was also used during the Catholic Literature Drive which followed. Another sophomore English class, taught by Sister Everildes, walked off with second prize. Their theme was taken from the book, Not With Silver Or Gold, and through their efforts the history of .the Precious Bloor Order was very well exemplified. Miss Stagge' junior class gained third place' through thei graphic illustration of the slogan for Catholic Booi Week - Holy Reading Maketh the Whole Man. We then decided to accept a challenge. W were going to change the world through our Catl' PM-if x Jlic Literature Drive. Fired with enthusiasm, 'veryone left the first pep rally determined to sell ,t least her quota of nine dollars in subscriptions. Iompetition was keen throughout the big fourteen lay campaign, with Hash prizes, and jackpots ust waiting to be carried away. After all the fire of enthusiasm and smoke of he battle cleared away, Sister Mary Octavia pre- ented Mary Reichling, Betty Lou Schnee, and fIary Ann lgel, with first, second, and third prizes espectively. Material rewards were the least of our concern, mowever, for we were changing the world by preading Catholic literature. Each felt personally ewarded for loss of shoe leather on those calls. lt long last we had convinced people that every Iatholic home should read at least one Catholic magazine. - :- DRIVE These dependable seniors contributed much to the success of the Literature Drive by daily sacrificing their study bell to count returns. March of '50 marked the commencement of the Girls' Athletic Association at Regina. Its object - keynoted by sportsmanship - is the promotion of participation and interest in athletic activities. Membership is open to anybody interested in the objectives of the club. The GAA gives awards not only for actual skill, but also for demonstrated interest in the sports program. It sponsored the intra- murals, all varsity teams, and several tournaments for individuals -- archery, ping-pong, etc. Besides these it arranged ice and roller skating parties, picnics, and hikes. An executive board consisting of president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and faculty adviser head the group. The cast rehearsed periodically and endeavored to present a program which proved to be a de- lightful evening for all those present. But without the help of those behind the scenes - the unsung heroes of the senior class - the play would not have been nearly so successful.
