Z. flfkfllS0lI, NSN .,.---- givlll the Eapfalh Now that it is all over, we can look back with mixed emotions over the past two years that found the REEVES home-ported in Yoko- suka, Japan. The rescue of troubled aviators, actions as an advance anti-aircraft defense ship in the Tonkin Gulf and general operations to aid the peoples of South Vietnam in their fight for self-determination were all sober times. Brief visits to ports in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Philippines served to pro- vide the necessary diversion from the nor- mally serious operational temp, Whether at sea or in port, the men of REEVES exhibited true professionalism as typified by outstand- ing teamwork and close friendships. During these two years of continuous employment with the U.S. Seventh Fleet, REEVES' repu- tation changed from Can Do to Can Do - Does Do, a worthy achievement for any ship's company. With a difficult task, well executed, behind, and a change in homeports to Long Beach, California, to be effected, we relaxed on the voyage home enjoying a memorable Shellback ceremony enroute to Sydney, Australia, and Christchurch, New Zealand, for friendship visits. Our first glimpses of California's golden hills, and the many families and friends to greet us upon our return, were heartwarming sights. As the ship inched closer to the pier, I once again was mighty proud to be associated with the REEVES and those who made her the great ship she is. Yes indeed, I am proud to serve in the REEVES.
