The Comehoming celebration was enhanced by halftime festivities at the basketball game. Already excited by the fast play action of the Rockets and Pirates, the crowd cheered wildly for the winning floats and spirit-winning classes. Then came the crowning of this years king. Don Rau proved victorious from among the five competing seniors and was presented with his crown by the 1986 king, Jeff Felske. Seniors 55 Seniors Visit Canadian Park What two words can most inspire a group of graduating students? “Senior trip’’ could proba- bly fit that bill. Almost half of the class of '87 participated in this trip to Toronto, Canada. They were ready to have one of the best times of their lives, and probably didn’t fall short of that goal. They jumped off the bus at Canada’s Wonder- land amusement park and disappeared, paired off and in groups, into it. There were rides to ride, good food offered, and generally a good-time carnival atmosphere awaiting them. When it was done, they rode home, talking, laughing, and most of all keeping the memories of one very good time. Jeff Ryers leans across the aisle of the bus, loosening up from the long ride to Canada. 56 Seniors Since it was a party, Mike Null and Marty Gonzales were the first in line. Below, Matt “Bobo” Parrent and friends get ready for fun. The scenery was wonderfu! at the park, and several sen- iors are pictured before it. 4 And they were off! Kathy Sheldon, Ann Yax, Sussette Bader, and Todd Mueller were four Seniors who were ready to enjoy their trip to Toronto. They called it “Т е Best of Times and no one could deny that it was. The Delta College Com- mons never looked so beautiful as the night it was decorated by our junior class. The dance floor alone was adorned with scores of blue and silver balloons, and pervading all was an atmosphere of happiness and celebration. The evening began at 6:30, when the various junior and senior couples began to arrive, dressed in their finest formal wear. After everyone settled in to tables with their friends, dinner, a wonderfully catered feast, was served. Yet, the night was only beginning. Following dinner, the mock awards, prophecies, and academic top ten were announced to the wait- ing crowd, bringing laughter, sighs of relief, and congratulations. Finally came the true spirit of the prom, when the music began to play softly, and all around, the couples who had entered the Com- mons arm-in-arm a short time earlier, found them- selves dancing closely. Some couples then took the opportunity to stroll through the gardens and watch the gentle flow of the fountains, and were rewarded with a beautiful clear night for romance. As the evening began to draw to a close, more and more of the promgoers left, to gather with friends, or to simply go home and dream of the wonderful night it had been. There were speeches and announcements of all sorts to be made at the prom, which only increased the general impor- tance of the traditional event. One of the biggest crowd- pleasers was the reading of the senior prophecies, this year by Angie Avery and Randy Kramer. 58 Seniors Above: Romantic slow dances were the order of the evening, and Todd Mueller and his date, Missy McNiven took the opportunity to get a little closer. Nothing less than the best was expected from these students, all noted for their proficiency in their individual fields, and nothing less was received. Soundly defeating Marlette, Kingston and Cass City, Mr. Matuzak’s English team saw no obstacles between them- selves and victory. They brought back a first- place trophy for their efforts. The Math Team’s members were from left to right: Aaron Avery, Annette Hecht, and Yee Hang (Captain). Back: Mike Uhl, Brian Swanton, Becky Jones and Coach Mr. Weier. Mrs. Smith’s Social Studies team made it into the semi-finals, but fell to Marlette. Both the Math team, under the tutelege of Mr. Weier, and Mrs. Wiseman’s Science team, performed well in the games, but still fell short of recognition in these most difficult competitions. Each year since the beginning of the games, Reese has never failed to bring home at least one first-place trophy, and with competitors like the returning underclassmen from this year, it is unlikely that our school ever will. iu ІР 7, | , um e ioe The English department’s “агеат team’’ consisted of, front row: Mary Barkholz, Carol Baumann (Captain), and Julia Elbers. What Will We Miss? What will the Seniors miss most when they leave RHS? When we asked a select group of the 12th year students, we found that the answers were as varied as the peo- ple themselves. Here were some of the re- sponses: “Т е thing I'll miss is my friends and all the fun we've had through the years. — Michelle Majask “Т е power, since our class ranks 1 and we are on top at this school. — Tim Peyok Nothing! — Matt Parrent Looking at all the women, slamming the bathroom door, and getting kicked out of class.” — Dan Grzemkowski Clearly, there is a lot to miss after your Senior year. Just being in class with friends, as shown above, is 620 е. The Best Year Yet The last year of high school. It took four years to reach it, but those were some of the greatest years of our lives, years of growing and learning. Remember our freshman year? Who could forget our famous “Мг. Т” Homecoming float! We grew even more through our sophomore and junior years, learning new skills and making new friends, enjoying the happy moments, living through the sad. All in preparation for ... Our senior year. One final glimpse of child- hood before we are set on the path of forming our own individual lives separate from the circles we knew here. It’s a time to celebrate and a time to reflect on the good times we’ve had here at Reese High School; the athletic events, the classes, and just being with friends, even as we look toward the future.
