Reedsport made it four state championships in one year by taking state in track. It was never a question of who was going to win, but by how much for the Reedsport Braves in their overwhelming march to the state crown. The '79 points accumulated by Coach Harlan Millikin's Braves represented an all-time high for the A-2 champion. Gene Faircloth, repeating his wins in the mile and the 880, led the Braves to their first track title and in the process won the meet's high point trophy with 20 points. Wayne Jorgensen got second in the half mile with a time of 1:59. 9 Mike Rosa got first in the broad jump by setting a new record of 22 feet, 8 112 inches. Rosa also got third in the high jump by going 5 feet, 10 inches. John Hedges got second place in the high hurdles and a sixth place in the low hurdles. John Henson got first in the high jump with a jump of 6-01!2. He got second in the pole vault with a 13-3 l!4. The quartet of Mike Kellis, Rod Brandon, Jim Wilson, and Bill Humphreys rewrote its own school record of 1:33. 0 by turning in a 1: 32. 6 for second place in the 880 relay.
