For the first time, the skiing classes had hills to ski on. The skills of the skiers also became more apparent in this situation, as some of the skiers had a little rougher time on the slopes. But, all of the participants were en- thusiastic and ready each day for more fun. Top Right: Chad Strampe goes airborne. Below: Bobbi Vanderkin watches Heidi Norman effortlessly gliding. HOMECOMING Homecoming week started a little early with the in- troduction of fluorescent chickens to the courtyard on the Friday before homecoming week. HOMECOMING Float Building Recipe What do you get when you mix thousands of col- ored tissues, hundreds of staples, yards and yards of chicken wire, hundreds of feet of paper, gallons of paint, four wagons, cardboard, creativity, alot of hard work and fun? This year’s homecoming floats took alot of work and energy. The juniors came in fourth place and vowed to “Hang Em”. The sophomores took third place and said “Mother Goose Tells no Tales the Reedsburg Beavers Will Pervail.” Second place went to the industrious freshman who put full steam ahead with “Wheel De’Rail ’Em.” Seniors dominated the competition and captured first place with their slogan of “We’ll Wipeout the Chiefs.” Top Right: Freshmen build their float while Mr. Daley threatens to “jump ” from the wagon. Seniors won the yell and the float competition and did their best at the spoons mocking an error in the same game during their sophomore year when Jenny Walsh got a spoon caught in her underclothing. a; V« % % % -■ % % %s. £ w oM 4 S 7 m 1L) 123 43 t)WilK3 1 I 3 I 2. The Beavers had a hard playing group of seniors in 1987, a group which saw more than its share of disap- pointments. The class lost several key players to in- juries during the year. Named to the all-conference team were linebackers Tim Bartels and defensive end Jody Harrison. Harrison at tight end, Doug Wiec- zorek, Scott Kaufman, and Matt Scott received all conference honorable mention. Quote from typical freshmen. “Mr. Moran didn’t tell us we had to build a float when we had freshman orientation.” After the initial shock, the freshmen turn to advisor, Mr. Daley, for ideas. He talks them out of building Beavers that look like blobs and tries for something that can’t be mistaken like a train. While other classes are busy building on Monday night the freshmen are still looking for a wagon. However, somehow the freshmen get their act together and soon they have very respectable float done two hours before the juniors and seniors. First there is the inexperienced freshman, who has never eaten at school before. They buy a surplus of tickets the first day. It doesn’t take long before they realize they had made a big mistake. Now there is alternatives to eating the school lunch. The first is to stand in line in the lobby or your best bet is to walk to Ted’s Fred’s. This year the school has surprised us all. It has added a salad bar line. The only advantage to this is that you make it yourself so you know what goes in it. This doesn’t make it taste any better mind you. Finally there is the after school alternative of loading up on junk food. This seems to be a particularly good freshman pasttime.
