Below: Mr. LeMeiux leads a number at the homecoming assembly. 3 Winning Conference Football Championship The football players got an extra special fire truck ride after winning the conference championship. This placed them in the state playoff competition where they lost in the second round to Kewauskum in overtime. Many fans and an excited group of players and cheerleaders made the trip across the state to follow them. 4 Brought A Trip To The Playoffs 6 Following Tradition: Seniors Again Win Homecoming Title Above: (1) Freshman Float, (2) Sophomore Float, (3) Junior Float, (4) Senior Float (first prize winner). Teachers get into the spirit this year with a skit and this year, an entry in the parade. Right: Tom Steinhorst and Dena Zimmerman played husband wife team in the play ACTIVITIES The 1983 Beaver football team won its fourth consecu- tive conference title losing just one game to Portage during their regular conference schedule. This put them into the division playoff picture where they lost a very exciting semifinal game to Kewauskum in over- time. Along the way the team achieved many goals includ- ing Mike Lennon's 1144 yards rushing and Bryan Wright 1,037 yards as a receiver. The duo of Andrea Schmidt and Tracey Kessler easily won the con- ference title in doubles, while Tra- cy Becker came up with a second at No. 1 singles. Becker and Kessler then teamed up for sub-sectionals. and were the only ones from the conference to advance. Meeting up with the to-be winners of the sec- tionals, they had a tough loss in the first round. The season ended with Tracy Kessler as MVP, Gretchen Locy, most improved; and Tracy Becker, sportsmanship award. Left: Tracy Becker smashes a back- hand. 21 Girls Take First Conference CC Title Sophomores led the boys' cross country team in 1983 Tony Osborn and Jeff Rhinehart were two of the top runners Highlights of the season included a 5th among 11 teams at the Reedsburg Invitational and a third of 6 at the Dells. Leading runners at this meet were Renee Schutz and Julie Cathcart which gave them all conference standing. Other top runners during the year included Debbie Koehler, Laurie Dischler, Lori Ketter, and Lynn Deakin. They also won many invita- tional and meets during the year. Volleyball Jayvee And Frosh Have A Fine Season The Jayvee and Frosh teams both did extremely well this season. The Frosh ended up 4-3 with nearly even record. The girls end- ed up 4TH in conference standings with a 4-4 record. The seniors won most of the awards this year, The- resa Spencer won the Most Valuea- ble. Kenda Mead received the Hus- tle Award. Jenny Horkan was Most Dedicated. The Most Improved Player was earned by Cindy Jaech. Finally, Brooke Corwith won the Senior Player Award. Dells, in tournament competition. Conference champs include Mike Len- non and Randy Kelsey. The team also qualified 8 members for sectionals. Coaches Poll Ranks Girls In Top 5 The girls' basketball team neared the end of the season firmly holding down third place to conference leaders Portage and Mauston. The jayvee team started slowly but gradually im- proved to the point where they were winning most games. The freshman lost only once during the season, IcGtbcl 1 The Key Club spent the Christmas season pre- paring a special breakfast with Santa for Reedsburg's smaller residents. They also sold Hardee's french fry coupons to benefit Special Olympics. The Future Farmers of America supported many of their projects by selling 1100 boxes of grapefruit and oranges at Christmastime. Ma- jor activities of the organization included trips to state and national convention, sponsoring judging teams, selling concessions at football games, and participation in various contests. They also entertained at most home games for the boys' and girls' basketball games and home wres- tling matches. They played at the homecom- ing pep rally and the pep meetings. They provided the music for the Veterans' Day salute and provided a good share of the fun for the Homecoming parade. At Hallow- een, they donned costumes for the parade.
