Homecoming 1982 was dominated by the Seniors. They entertained the school with their own version of “Mission Impossible”. The King and Queen, Brian Shyvinck and Becky Hipen- becker reigned over the 50’s themed Home- coming. The speaker for the Friday afternoon assembly was “Dobbie Dobson. Miss Davis was director and Mrs. Mittke vocal director and Mr. LeMeiux orchestra director. Lin- da Champagne was student director. Beavers Take Conference Crown For Third Straight Year Above: Top Beaver rusher, Tom Nachtigal, Is tackled by a Nekoosa paper- maker. Right: The Beavers score another touchdown. After losing to Sparta in the season opener, the Reeds- burg Beaver football team dominated the rest of the teams they played during the season. By defeating Nekoosa, the Beavers finished in a 3-way tie for the conference cham- pionship but missed participating in the state playoffs. All-conference picks included Dan Rooney, John Mayer, Tom Nachtigal, Tom Rockweiler, and Mark Lichte. Rooney and Mayer were also named to the all area team by the Wisconsin State Journal and Rooney received all-state rec- ognition. Tom Nachtigal also finished the season with over 1000 yards rushing. The girls’ volleyball team finished a respectable third in the 1982 conference competition behind powerful first place Portage, losing just three conference matches. Their season was also highlighted by their championship at a Mauston Invitational Tournament. The season award winners included MVP-Julie Shep- pard, also all-conference pick, MIP-Tammy Walker, and Julie Meyer honorable mention all conference. Girls and boys cross crountry teams both finished second to Portage in conference tournament compe- tition. The girls had a consistantly good season finishing second in several invitationals and sophomore run- ners, Deb Kohler and Renee Schutz, finishing 5th and 6th, with identical times, at the Class A LaCrosse sectional. Even though she lost in first round competi- tion, this was a new experience for a Reedsburg girl’s tennis player. The girls also handily won both the conference tourna- ment and the individual meet competition. IIISSHHH: The Reedsburg wrestling squad faced a rebuilding season after los- ing much of its senior dominated state championship squad of 1982. The team’s highlights included a very close second place finish to Portage in Reedsburg’s own invita- tional and a third place finish at Mount Horeb. Craig Meyer also took a third at the Badger State meet in Madison. Their dual meet season included both victories and losses by wide margins and provided a great deal of varsity experience for a wide va- riety of wrestlers in several weight categories. Juniors Bryan Wright and John Mayer were also starters on the squad. The team won several early games including a non-conference victory against Madison East. By midseason, they had accumulated a 6-3 mark. John Mayer was the leading scorer for the early part of the season. They hold an annual French din- ner with decorations and festivities. A group of them attended a French concert and others went to the folk fair. A trip to France was also planned for Easter. Several of the girl’s participated in the co-op business education program working at jobs around the community. They raised money selling candy bars to send a delegation to the regional and state conferences and bought some business training equipment for the school each year. They sponsered a pancake breakfast, with a lot of maple syrup. Special Olym- pics is another activity which they helped support. They also helped out at the Bloodmobile. Mark Lichte was the president, Phil Hofstad was the vice- president, Kevin Mead was the executive president, Connie Mundth is the secretary, and Chris Craker was the treasurer.They watched out for embezell- ment. The FFA lead by president Tom Birdsill was an active organization of agriculture related students. They par- ticipated in leadership training workshops, officer train- ing, parlaimentary proceedure contests, and judging contests during the year. They sold hundreds of cases of grapefruit and oranges at Christmas time to raise funds for their activities. This year the Webb Staff had a new advisor, Ms. Davis. They wrote about the different activities around Webb High. They made sure to include all the local gossip like who did what and where and all that good stuff. They decorated hundreds of lockers, painted scores of signs and painted most of the downtown windows during homecoming festivities. Thousands of bags of popcorn helped support these activities. The FHA was lead by president Terri Churchill. They continued their sponsorship of a child overseas. To raise funds, they sold refreshments at basketball games and ice cream bars after school. Simeon Wins 2nd In Conference Singles Reedsburg Boy's Tennis Team: Ron Simeon, Glen Boll, Mark Wolter, Kirby Sheldon, Tony Zech, Tracy Emberson, and John Boll The tennis team finished third in conference action for the spring sea- son. Ron Simeon was second in singles competition. He was also MVP for the season. Glen Bolt was named captain and most improved player was Mark Wolter. The highlight of the boys’ golf sea- son was winning the regional tourna- ment. Brent Marshall was medalist. Overall, the team finished third in con- ference competition, winning one of the conference meets.
