The Reedsburg Beavers moved from a slow start to a conference championship. After two nonconference losses to Rich- land Center and Oregon, the teams high hopes were somewhat dimmed. Then a close victory over tough Baraboo got the team moving and they did not face an- other loss until well into the state playoffs. As undisputed conference champions, they earned the right to defeat Milton soundly in playoff action but then fell to a future state championship Two Rivers team. After season awards included Bob Bessert being named to an All State team and Den- nis Haefer, John Utley, Todd Harrison and Bessert being named all conference. MVP was Dennis Haefer, Best Lineman was Tom Daly, and Best Defense was Bill Toudot. Webb High's cross country teams ended their season at Dodgeville with the girls tied for third and the boys placing tenth. Three Make All-Conference This year the Girls varsity volleyball team end- ed their season with a 12-2 record, with the only two losses to Portage. Again the girls got through regionals, but got beat out at sectionals at Portage. Chris Schiefelbein and Lorna Sheppard were voted all conference and Mona Gudensch- wager received honorable mention. Junior varsity ended with a 6-8 record and the freshmen finished 6-0. The Boys' varsity Volleyball ended their season in sec- tional play at Madison tieing with Portage for second place. Left: Brian Buss makes a save. 25 The 1982 gymnastics team organized under a new coach, Mrs. Julie Stuen. The team was paced especially by sen- ior Maura Godsted, a transfer student with much gymnastics experience. Other leading participants included seniors Pam Pierce, Kelly Moran and Lynee Tourdot. The girls increased their competition to include area and conference teams, losing only one of their first six meets. Participation increased to include both varsity and junior varsity competition. Stephanie Zietlow took the conference singles championship and Kelly McDermott and LuAnn Hasz followed with the doubles title. Reedsburg also captured the dual meet title with a perfect 6- 0 mark. Bill Tourdot; and above Kurt Scott. The wrestling Beavers finished a fine regular season with a three way tie in conference dual meet com- petition with Wisconsin Dells and Portage. In the conference meet, they finished IV2 points behind first place Dells and tied with Portage. Conference champs included Mike Busser, Tom Daly, Tom Nachtigal, Craig Meyer and Todd Harrison. The Beaver dual meet season was marred only by losses to conference rival Wisconsin Dells and by non-conference bouts against Wisconsin Rapids and River Valley. The girls' basketball team moved through a very successful season losing only two conference games to conference leaders and state ranked Portage. Seniors including Ann Borleske, Peggy Haefer, Chris Schiefelbein and Bonnie Owen paced the team. Junior Julie Meyer was also a starter. With the exception of Portage, the girls won most games decisively. The junior varsity team also had a very successful season winning all of their early games. The 81-82 basketball team faced an early season of close losses. One point loss margins were common as the team moved through De- cember and January. A midseason highlight in- cluded a holiday tournament victory over Sauk Prairie. Sophomore John Mayer led all other scorers in the early season. The varsity team also included four junior starters including Mark Lichte, Chris Craker, Bart Bartels, and Jim Hokanson. The tough junior varsity posted 8 wins in the first 11 games and the freshmen were unde- feated in the same amount of time.
