A cold mud soaked Beaver football team arrived back in Reedsburg with a police escort after a 7-0 conference winning vic- tory over Wis. Dells. This highlighted a season that started with a non-conference victory over Sauk but was followed losses to Logan and Mauston. From here the up hill battle for the co-conference cham- pionship required 6 consecutive victories including a 10-6 win over co-conference champions, Tomah. Football award Winners included All- Conference: Jeff Meyer, Bob Bessert, and John Paquin; co-captains: Randy Bradley, Dave Brenner, and Randy Even; Most Im- proved: Mike Conlin; Tackle Chart: Jon Gutzman; and MVP: John Paquin. ★★★★★★★★★★★★ ★Varsity Football t ★★★★★★★★★★★★ Top: Jon Gutzman (44) leads a tackle attempt on a Tomah ball player while Jim Craker stands ready to aid. The 1980 cross country tam finished their regu- lar season with a 6-2 dual meet record. Jim Angus finished the season as number one run- ner and won second place in the conference meet. Kirk Briggs finished 7th in conference and to- gether with Angus was named to the all-confer- ence team while both were named co-most valuable runners. Other varsity runners includ- ed Bart Bartels, most improved runner, and best team runner; and Mark Hofstad, Dan Ko- sak, A1 Schroeder, Rick Cathcart, and Jim Far- rar. Cross country competitors included Top left: Mark Hofstad, I eft: Jan- elle Repka, and Kirk Briggs, and Above Reedsburg’s top runner of the year Jim Angus.
