The 1979 varsity football sea- son was adequate in the eyes of new head coach, Ken Wag- ner. In his first year he brought the team to a 5-4 season re- cord. Coming into the home- coming game, Reedsburg was tied for first with a 4-0 confer- ence record; but when losing homecoming and parents night the varsity ended in third place behind Tomah and the confer- ence leader Wisconsin Dells. Team award winners included: Tom Gavin, all conference; Jeff Schara, all conference, M.V.P., captain, hitters club and most tackles; Jim Meronek all con- ference, captain, hitters club, and best blocker; captains, Pete Goodman and Harry Zastrow; all conference honorable men- tion, Craig Craker, Kevin Chur- chill, Randy Even, Jon Paquin. and Bruce Jaech.
