Bye-Bye Birdie Bye Bye Birdie was a play set back in the 50's and a take off of the famous singer Elvis. The play takes place in the small town of Sweet Apple, Ohio where Kim, a young girl of 16, is chosen to bestow the final kiss on Conrad before he leaves for the Army. The play is based around the many problems that are faced to achieve this goal. The Almaylue Co. has to overlook that there is a very jealous boyfriend wait- ing just to get his hands on Conrad. Overall, Miss Davis and Rhonda Bentley directed a funny and well liked play. Above: All the phones in Sweet Apple, Ohio are tied up when the news about Hugo and Kim going steady starts to get around. Top Right: Karla Hammer (Mrs. Peterson) de- cides to drop in on Rose and Albert (Brenda Prather and Art Mathews). Oddly enough, neither of them are too excited to see her. Middle Right: Conrad Birdie sings on the Ed Sullivan Show. Girls around the world watch to see the love god for the last time before he leaves for the Army. Bottom Right: Kim and Conrad (Becky Hippenbecker and Tim Hor- kan) reflect on the time spent together in the play, Bye Bye Birdie . 12
