Sarah Hasler and Judy Meyer continued on to the State meet and made the Burg fans proud. As coach, Mrs. DeMerit did an unbelievable job in keeping the girls inspired and enthusiastic through- out the successful year. Boy s Track started out the year with a new and dedicated coach, Mr Whitsell. Many long hours and laps got the team into competitive shape. School and personal records were bettered due to this vigorous training Mark Zietlow was able to break the high jump record and set a new one of his own. Through varied weather condi- tions, biting winds, and slick tracks the track team had a very respectable season. Despite all their obstacles the team sent the 880 relay team to the State meet. A trip to Gant s funeral home hilighted the year as each member care- fully selected his favorite coffin. Guests spoke at several meetings and the girls continued with their traditional program of providing candy stripers at Reedsburg Hospital. Student Library Assistants assumed a great deal of responsibility in assisting this year’s smaller library staff. Endless carts of books were shelved and thou- sands of dates were stamped as students found a useful alternative to study halls. Scientac Medicae members Laura Moyer, Portia Schulz, and Lynda Boone, put on a demonstration of the human body, namely the bones. A fall musical and springtime comedy provided lots of work and many points to increase the member- ship. After winter initiation was snowed out, a big spring initiation including a candle lighting ceremony was held. A trip to Baraboo Theatre Guilds' produc- tion of “Count Dracula” completed the evening. At seasons end the Thespians also presented awards for acting, and the best participation in their organization. History Discussion Club organized to read books and discuss their importance. The senior started their last year off with a victory by winning Homecoming 1972. Their first place float, a raking Beaver exclaiming “This may be an Indi- an Slimmer but the Chiefs will Fall! was a favorite of the judges. Hohn Soren- son made his stage debut as the Wiscon- sin Dells coach and aided in clinching a first place in the skit competition. Se- niors Mark Zietlow and Kathy Douglas reigned as King and Queen of homecoming. The seniors took the throne again as Terry Y'onBehren and Bob Harder were crowned King and Queen of our 1973 Winter Carnival. The carnival proved to be another day of exciting and fun filled events which was climaxed by the find- ing of the Beaver Head, again with the help of super-senior John Sorenson. The Senior Pass Program proved a new and welcome experience taken ad- vantage of by most seniors. The pass enabled the qualified senior to leave the building during study halls. The pass program was a big success at least as far as the seniors were concerned. 104 — Seniors Senior Class Officers are Sec -Treas Nan Marshall. The snake dance led by Peggy Horkan culminated in a gigantic bon fire behind the swim- ming pool. The pep band created high spirits among Beaver fans. On Friday afternoon the Seniors accumulated the first Homecoming points with a pep talk” skit featuring John Sorenson. The marching band headed the parade followed by the first prize winning Senior float. Facul- ty members joined together to create an enthusiastic band. After a hard fought game the Beavers found them- selves losing 12-0 to the Dells. King Mark Zietlow and Queen Ka- thy Douglas reigned over the dance which was claimed as a success. Kathy Douglas, the 1972 Homecoming Queen, viewed the parade perched high top her mobile throne Six outhouses, one church steeple, fence posts, and a dog house built the biggest bon fire ever The Seniors put in many hours of work to earn their first place victory in the float competition It’s an Indian Summer but theCheifs Will Fall” was their award winning theme Homecoming — 127 Winter carnival 1973 was a succes as it always has been. The Seniors reigned via finding the beaver head John Sorenson and associates located the hidden Beaver at South Park, stifling the hunt and mak- ing possible an enjoyable and victorious day for all of the seniors. The junior Basketball-ettes proved to provide the winning combination in girls buckets — mostly due to a great coach- ing staff of Mark Clossey and Mark “Spencer Haywood” Lange. Seniors out- strengthened all the rest in tug-o-war competition. Other activities of the day included the Klondike Dinner and final- ly the dance climaxed with the crowning of Queen Terri VonBehren and King Bob Harder. Hard work, long nights, and sagging spirits all were for- gotten when the juniors viewed their master- piece. Guests and spectators were enhanced by the flickering lights and glittering decora- tions. Stretching overhead, a pastel rainbow continued the theme of springtime. Home Park, an excellent band, provided music of all types for the prom-goers. Good music, enchanting decorations, and good company all combined to create an unforgetta- ble evening. The parking lot was trans- formed into an arena with room for 2000 people while the graduates sat facing the school that they had attended for four years. Highlights of the program were class speakers, Melvin Luck and Loree Bes- sert, and Webb 1970 alumnus Dan Mill- er Diplomas and awards were presented as each senior crossed the stage. The evening concluded with the Alma Mater and many tears. Jeanette Colby thoughtfully reflects on days gone by, while awaiting the start of the graduation ceremony.
