fit' 4 With a Song in Our Hearts the Senior Class presents the 1959 Gleaner. We have chosen as our theme — Harmony. The first thought that comes to our minds when we think of Harmony is Music. Music makes up a big part of everyone's life. When there's Music in the Air, everything seems to go right. Harmony applies not only to music, but to life as a whole. It is achieved by the educated indi- vidual who has learned to get along with others because he has learned to understand and tolerate. In a combined effort with other classes of ‘59, we hope, as we enter a world of discord, to use our talents and the training we received in W.H.S. to contribute in some manner to world harmony. This is true not only for those of us who played in the band, but also for those of us who enjoyed and supported you and the band at football and basketball games, and at concerts and parades. The enthusiastic and cooperative spirit of the band and director, we feel sure, has been reflected in increasing loyalty and support of our school by students and public alike. With sincere appreciation we, the Senior Class of 1959, dedicate this Gleaner of Harmony to you. Sincerely, The Seniors 2 ROY T. NORMINGTON B. Ed., M.A. Central Wisconsin Teachers College. Columbia University Dear Seniors - As seniors about to graduate from Webb High School I hope that you have learned that your future success or failure de- pends upon you and no one else. Good people - productive people, people who have learned how to think, who have sound judgment, and who are willing to work, will always be in demand. If you as an indi- vidual can develop your capacity to think straight, to come to sound conclusions, and to work constructively with other people - then you have something to sell and something our country needs. So, members of the Class of '58, my final word to you is that you remember that, in this nation, it is the individual that counts, and the individual is the master of his own destiny. My best wishes to all of you. 53 -. Sincerely, Asststcutfc Qufje iUdsMjd LAWRENCE OLSON B.A., M.A. Luther College, University of Iowa Secretaries BERNICE MOYES THERESA L1EGEL ROW ONE: A. Erickson. J. MAYFIELD IN U MORIAM The Seniors lost a good friend and class- mate during their Freshman year. No one will ever forget Wallace Strickert who died October 9, 1955, of bulbar polio. It was a tragedy for ali who knew him, and we have missed Wally through our years of high school. The Senior Class would like to thank Mr. Mayfield for being our helpful advisor throughout our four years of high school. He spent much time and effort helping us with all our major projects, including the Loyalty banq- uets, Homecomings, and Prom. President SENIOR CLASS HISTORY With the tune of school days, school days running through our heads, we marched into the old Reedsburg High School as freshmen, looking forward to the day when we would be able to sing Gradu- ation Day. But now as we look back in 1959 we wish we could re-capture the thrill and excitement of that first day of high school. Our biggest task as freshmen was to learn to work as a team. To help us get the spirit of being high school students we elected Ron Krohn as president, Dick Buchsteiner as vice-president, and Carol Brimmer as secretary-treasurer. We fondly recall our big events of the year which were the Freshman Bawl initiation, and also the Homecoming festivities in which our class showed it's enthusiasm by winning first place both for our skit and yell. As sophisticated sophomores we began our 1956 school year, very self assured and unable to imagine why we had been considered meek and lowly only a year ago. Our energetic and capable officers were Dick Buchsteiner, president; Dick Schafer, vice-president; and Nila Schreck, secretary-treasurer. This was the year in which our class became very active in school activities and we began working as a team instead of 147 different individuals. This paid off during Homecoming, especially when we won first place on our float and yell. Probably our most exciting, glamorous, and best remembered year of all was our Junior year. Our class rings came the day before Christmas. Our president was Dick Buchsteiner, elected as vice-presi- dent was Bill McCabe, and as secretary-treasurer, Carol Brimmer. Our class took a trip Around the World in 80 Days on April 18 at our Junior prom. Sue Davis and Marvin Laukant reigned as our queen and king. Another highlight of the year was our Junior party at which we honored Mr. and Mrs. Cramer who were leaving. Elected to attend Badger Girl and Boys State were Kay Bates, Dick Buchsteiner and Bill McCabe. We once more took first place in our float and yell at Homecoming. And now as all good things must come to an end so must this, our senior year. But one thing which will never end is the memory of our high school days at Webb High School. 25 SECRETARY-TREASURER As an enthusiastic Junior Class, we started off the year by winning first for our Homecoming yell and skit. Early in the semester we proudly chose our class rings which arrived in time for Christmas. Our big event of the year was the Junior Prom held in the beautifully decorated gym. We feel we were successful Juniors proving our loyalty and good citizenship in many ways. Jerry Thies Ricky Whitty Judy Thomas ROW ONE: C. Gasser. B. Young, S. Erickson, L. Siofer, B. Vinson, M. This year the Loyalty Council got an early start on their work, the Homecoming activities hod to be started earlier than usual. This year the council undertook a new project by helping organize the Youth Conference for Dis- trict III, which was held during November here at Reedsburg. Again this year the annual magazine sale was held during the end of January and early February. The Loyalty Council also sponsored the noon movies again for the recreation of the students. How- ever, different activities throughout the school were able to sign up to furnish the publicity and the ticket collectors; as a reward they were able to keep whatever profit was made on the movie. The annual Loyalty Banquet climaxed a very successful year for the council. 48 B. Templin 1 ' V Secretary Treasurer Mr. Romoren XdxH cyi ■ p. « £ Kelley Wcc K. Strue blng 1. 0obe(' J. Schultz, M.
