Nielsen's Musicians Sophs'Sue Benner and Wes Asakawa were leaders in the brass section Bob Nielsen, RC instrumental music instructor, provided many fine programs with the talented students he directed this year. First to be heard was the Pep Band which made appear- ances at athletic events. Then the concert band developed into one ofthe best units Nielsen has had in recent years. Coach Lehman, Manuel Hemandez l 4 l P Tiger Country-Best for '73 1 Ray Gilson and Rick Biggs each received two specia awards. Coach Perkins tabbed them team co-captains. Gilson was the outstanding offensive lineman land Biggs was most inspirational. Coach Perkins announced that Calvin Young was most valuable, anc most improved on offense was Curetis IVIc Nealy, with Dave Nlorton most improved on defense. Robert Price was the outstanding defensive lineman. Out- 'iged standing offensive back was Dave Sharp, outstanding defensive back was Carl Derrick, and the outstanding achievement award went to Randy Cervelli. Coach Tom Tyner named Jeff Mitchell as most val- uable water polo team member, most improved was Bert Engstrom, and team captain was Richard Dial. Coach Lehman Alan Kawakami Coach Bob Lehman named Nlanuel Hernandez, cross country team ' captain and most valuable and winner of the Lehmathon Award. Nlost improved cross country runner was Alan Kawakami . Elaine F. Rouch named Bryan Peterson the outstanding student leader. RC Chorale Second to None in 1973-74 The RC Chorale in public concert. Sue Benner Lyndon Heinrichs GIDCEB f 'T-lsf:T?3if MD to JMU Director Clark Skogsberg nl This group sang the most difficult work of recent years. Clark Skogsberg rated his 1973-74 vocal music groups as second to none in his previous experi- ence of directing at RC. Active in many appearances as a chorale as the Nladrigal Singers and as smaller groups, members also sponsored money raising projects so they could take an annual tour to the Bay area. Skogsberg had fine accompanists in Jim Harder and John Simmons. Student directors were Sue Benner and Lyndon Heinrichs. l l John Simmons accompanies-- Good concentration here, Skogsberg. To the victor, the spoils? , but not true of the PICTURE AT LEFT. This was a gift to Nlr. Skogsberg from the Chorale. 7'I
