Q. x if 3 in an l Ht.. By speaking with each other we might not solve all the problems that face us, but at least we know what they are. Dialogue Day did not solve any problems confronting education, but at least people sat down together and expressed their ideas about what Redwood should be. Man is by nature a performer. Part of his awareness then must be in his performance of life. Let us play a game. This game will prove to be quite challenging, indeed, maybe too challenging for some, but if you keep your head up and your wits about you, you might succeed at it. 36 4' ,A- i K' ' 'V '6 I f . ....f1,, -i ..,, ,, ,W la I .. 950 P.. +V' A WL .,,,, N-4. ,,.k N - tif 'B if 1:-1 ' k .WWW wwf The game has no name, simply because no one has ever been able to define what it Likewise, it doesn't have any rulesg oh, it appears to have rules, but since rules a forever changing or being broken, we had better not cling too dearly to them, or v shall be left behind. Everyone does in this game, at one time or another. You might give a bad performance in one area, or someone might not like what you're doing and will let you know, thus creating what is known as a conflict . The idea, of course, is to avoid as many conflicts as you can and still retain your identity. That might seem hard, but you will learn with time and practice. Don't be disturbed if you seem to have bogged down, or if you don't have beginners luck, for it is your performance in the long run that counts in this play. Of course, since this play is merely a game, you can stop playing whenever you like. Since it doesn't have any rules, feel free to make your own, but beware: A rule that stays a rule too long may not be for the best. The whole idea is that this game is your game, and whether you choose to play it, or how you play it, is totally up to you. fa ds I , ' f lS'1.,-,Jiri NX Q1 ' 'fir SX A f M. ig -.Q W NN? Rise free from care before dawn, and seek adventures. Let the noon find thee by other lakes, and the night overtake thee everywhere at home. There are no larger fields than these, no worthier games may here be played . . . Let not to get a living be thy trade, but thy sport. . .Through want of enterprise and faith men are where they are, buying and selling, and spending their lives like serfs. Henry David Thoreau 1 Wai: S YNmf1f , X My hmmm ww ,aw Q ,Wm .MG ,,.....4f ' In VV 'B' Q... f And yet when I look at the world about me. . . I don't at all feel that we are entering a new period of barbarism. The things that make the Dark Ages so dark-the isolation, the lack of mobility, the lack of curiosity, the hopelessness-don't obtain at all When I have the good fortune to visit one of our new universities, it seems to me that the inheritors of all our catastrophes look cheerful enough-very different from the melancholy late Romans or pathetic Gauls whose likenesses have come down to us. In fact, I should doubt if so many people have ever been as well-fed, as well-read, as bright-minded, as curious and as critical as the young are today. -Kenneth Clark Hey,ljusthadathought . . . Driven away from the cross country team by discriminatory policies, and a dissatisfaction with the calibre of coaching pro- vided, they banded together and enjoyed a fine indepen- dent season of racing. Late in the season they were il- legally suspended by the Athletic Department in an ef- fort to prevent them from joining the track team. This suspension was overturned by the State Athletic Commis- sion. lt is hoped that the Rebels will not have to exist next year, but if they must, they will plague the athletic department until its rules are changed.
