REDWOOD I8 - TAMALPIAS 25 It's hard to believe, but the Giants were leading the Indians 19-18 with 1:25 remaining on the clock. lt was a tough loss for the home team as they played outstanding ball. Pete Carroll was on target to Jeff Kono- pisos for one touchdown and Pete Richter scored the other two. .lim Peters and Rich Simpson sat out the game with injuries. REDWOOD 25 - DRAKE37 Another heartbreaker for the Giants, With two minutes left on the clock, the Giants led 25-24. A long bomb by the Pirates accounted for the go ahead touchdown and then while the Giants were playing catch up ball, the Pirates intercepted and scored with9 seconds' remaining. There was not a dry eye in the locker room and Coach Troppmann reminded the boys that there were three games left and that they could salvage the season. Scoring for the Giants were - Konopisos, pass from Peters, Richter, Carroll and Dorinson. REDWOOD 25 - MITTY25 The Giants were not up for the Mitty game and settled for a 25-25 tie. .lim Peters passed to Jeff Konopisos on the opening play for a touch- down and then another quick score by Pete Richter put the Giants out in front but the San Jose School had a three touchdown 3rd quarter to tie the game. Peter Carroll and Rob Dorinson came back to score and the game ended a tie. REDWOOD25-SAIVRAFAEL 7 The Giants played one of their best games of the season completely 86 dominating the Bulldogs. Pete Carroll was named the Prep of the Week by the Independent Journal for his outstanding play. Pete Richter scored as did Rob Dorinson on a pass from Jim Peters. The team took the game ball to Charles Flynn at Marin General Hospital. REDWOOD 25- TERRA LINDA I0 The Giants restored pride in the Redwood football program and de- feated the previously undefeated Terra Linda Trojans who had already won the Championship. This set the stage for the Novato-Drake game which Novato won 14-13 to share the MCAL crown with Terra Linda. Pete Richter had his best day scoring three touchdowns and making 140 yards rushing on 27 carries. Pete Carroll accounted for the other touch- down. It was a proud day for the Redwood team. HIGHLIGHTS OF THESEASON Named to the All League team were Pete Richter, Doug Best, Phil Simon and defensive tackle Gary Kasprzak. Honorable mentions went to Jim Peters and Henry Diaz. Jim Peters and Henry Diaz were named co-captains by their team- mates and Henry Diaz was the senior scholastic award winner. Doing an outstanding job as managers were Rich Mills and Bill Minnes. Kris Kristenson who has been the teams statistician for the past three years will be sorely missed due to graduation. Jim Peters broke three records in the passing department. Varsity coaches assisting Coach Troppmann were Coach Phil Roark, Coach Wes Price and Coach Al Endriss.
