Two teachers were added to the staff this year. Mr. J.D. Nichols was hired to replace Mr. Arthur Wigell the first semester, and Mrs. Eileen Hawkes the second semester. This fall he will be a regular member on the Fine Arts staff. Also aiding the department by teaching art in the morning was Mr. Robert Flynn from Industrial Arts. The Drama department performed Night Must Fall , as their annual fall play, under the direction and guidance of Mr Joe Wadlington. The choir, directed by Mr. J.D. Nichols, sang various selections from the Messiah for the Christmas show. Miss Orendorff again taught the ever popular photography classes. Consumer Economics taught by Mr. Stuart Shepherd, a new member of the faculty, teaches the students to be more effective buyers. They have visited such places as used car lots to com- pare the advantages of cash and creditg and they have examined the importance of insurance and cost. The class is an attempt to teach students intelligent buying with regard to value. Introduction to Data Processing is a one semester course taught by Mr. Broemmer which gives credit in both business and math. It is not a vocational course, but is an overview of the field of data processing. The class often visited the Marin County data process- ing center when they used many machines which were available to them. They also visited the I.B.M. data center in San Francisco and the Pacific Telephone data processing center. Mr. John Cook was, again, the head of the department. Mrs. Louise Velte Mr. Everett Andrew This year, three teachers were added to the English department: Mrs. Maria Van Buskirk, Mr. Russ Hill and Mr. Charles Feeney. Mrs. Van Buskirk graduated from San Francisco State College and then was an ob- server and student teacher at Redwood. Mr. Feeney graduated from Los Angeles State College, taught for two years in Southern California and then moved to Marin County. Mr. Hill has written several books in- cluding a series of books and tapes titled Spectrum which are intended to encourage students to use their senses when they write. As the LOG went to press, the English department had tentative plans to initiate an entirely elective pro- gram in English for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. Mr. Wharton taught classes in Electronics and Electricity, which were added to the curriculum of this de- partment last year. Mr. Robert Flynn and Mr. Ron Hunt, the de- partment head, taught the Mechanical Drawing Classes, and Mr. Hurt also taught classes in Architectural Drawing. The Graphic Art clas- ses, which were responsible for the printing of the Bark, the school paper, and the Mini Bark , were conducted by Mr. Rich Halper. The Woodwork Shop classes, under the direc- tion of Mr. Phillip Roark, were devoted to the learning and mastering the art of carpentry. Mr. Ernest Lynch taught the Metal Shop classes. Mr. Broemmer taught Introduction to Data Processing which was ajoint effort of the Math and Busi- ness departments. Because this course was in such demand, it was offered both semesters, though it was originally scheduled for fall only. Descriptive Geometry , taught by Mr. Radloff, was also offered. This was ajoint effort ofthe Math and lndustry departments. Being such an unique course, prepared textbooks are not available and Mr. Rad- loff compiled his own.
